#1: So.... my wheel fell off Author: craigy00craig, Location: surreyPosted: Tue May 03, 2011 5:29 am ---- Yeh my f*****g wheel fell off!!! I took the wheels off the paint the calipers. Started driving home from my friends and started hearding this juddering noise so i pulled over and checked all the wheel nuts and all seemed fine. So went to perform a 3 point turn and crash, the front passenger wheel is no longer attached to the car. Wing slams against the tyre and knocks it totally out of place.
managed to jack it up to put the wheel back on but all the bolts were f****d. Took one bolt off each other wheel but he internal thread was broken so i couldnt get the bolts to screw in.
gonna need a new thing that the bolts screw in, anyone know what that part is called? im going to the local car breakers later so should get a new part and get it fitted.
school boy

#4: Re: So.... my wheel fell off Author: Seabook, Posted: Tue May 03, 2011 5:36 am ---- front wheel hub. that's what you need.
doubt you can use a second hand one as the bearing will be destroy when remove.
have you got the pics of the bolts and hubs?
sounds odd that would happen
#5: Re: So.... my wheel fell off Author: Danw_VVT, Location: Herts/LondonPosted: Tue May 03, 2011 5:37 am ---- im guessing it had the worng bolts in for the thread to be gone. where they aftermarket ones?
#6: Re: So.... my wheel fell off Author: craigy00craig, Location: surreyPosted: Tue May 03, 2011 5:41 am ---- yer they were aftermarket ones but ive had them on there for ages. I think them the wheel was in the process was falling off it just f****d it up... i dunno.
oh s**t so i cant get a second hand hub?? erm nah i dont have any pics, i will take some later
#7: Re: So.... my wheel fell off Author: Seb, Location: Under your bedPosted: Tue May 03, 2011 5:41 am ---- I'm guessing then that you didn't quite tighten them back up properly?
You'll probably need a new hub, and it would be worth checking all the suspension components are ok.

I had to replace a front hub last year because one of the internal threads got knackered - I got the whole hub/bearing assembly second hand off one of those on-line breakers networks - about £40 iirc - then a local garage only charged £20 to put it in.
#9: Re: So.... my wheel fell off Author: MrrNoName, Location: UKPosted: Tue May 03, 2011 5:48 am ---- aww sorry to hear that dude hope there's not much damage, look on the bright side, it could have come off doing 70!

#12: Re: So.... my wheel fell off Author: Seabook, Posted: Tue May 03, 2011 5:52 am ---- you can get a new hubs for 60, fitting is dead easy too.
#13: Re: So.... my wheel fell off Author: skard, Location: UK - NorthPosted: Tue May 03, 2011 5:53 am ---- i got a whole strut setup (shocker, top mount, spring, hub assembly etc) from a scrappies for £15 last year, only a few bolts to remove it all and a bar to get the bottom balljoint out.
did me for a few days just to get the car back on the road, but you could use it until it needs replaced naturally.

is probably dur to those cowboy tyre fitter who use airgun to destroy the hubs and the bolts
#15: Re: So.... my wheel fell off Author: MrrNoName, Location: UKPosted: Tue May 03, 2011 5:54 am ---- i recon this is why it happened.
you did the bolts up, started to drive, they became loose and the wheel was loose and wobbely pushing out on the bolts, you pulled over and checked them but as the wheel was pushing against the bolts and the car wasnt jacked up they felt tight even though they wernt fully in (because the wheel was on the ground so couldnt freely move back against the hub). u started driving again and they came off.
i have no idea if the wheel should be off the ground when you check the bolts, but i duno what else could have caused that?? its kinda worrying lol
#16: Re: So.... my wheel fell off Author: craigy00craig, Location: surreyPosted: Tue May 03, 2011 6:06 am ---- yer that sounds likely. bad times. Will let you know how i get on at the scrappy
#17: Re: So.... my wheel fell off Author: MrrNoName, Location: UKPosted: Tue May 03, 2011 6:07 am ---- yeh do, take some pics too, interesting to see how mangled it was
#18: Re: So.... my wheel fell off Author: Stanton, Location: GuildfordPosted: Tue May 03, 2011 7:33 am ---- Had exactly the same thint happen to me twice.. two different wheels, both times ripped the arches out, once whilst parking, the other in the middle of Guildford.. Don't bother trying to rethread the hubs if they're already shredded, replace them with new ones if you can afford them straight from peugeot instead of a breakers and also check any damage to drive shafts as mine were f****d, though not 100% if this was the cause, my car has plenty of other faults. Good luck man
#19: Re: So.... my wheel fell off Author: NorthantsBen, Location: Raunds, NorthamptonshirePosted: Tue May 03, 2011 11:17 am ---- i was in my mates doing 40mph when passenger one fell off and rolled down the road!
got a new hub from scrapyard and fitted new disc's as that was naff as were it dragged down road.
#20: Re: So.... my wheel fell off Author: craigy00craig, Location: surreyPosted: Tue May 03, 2011 11:50 am ---- Went to the yard this afternoon and they had loads of 206s which is good. But they were really busy and didn't have time to remove the hub for me and I didn't have any tools (or knowledge) to do it myself. Going back in the morning to get it.
On the plus side, they had a gti there and I got the gear knob and gaiter for £3 think I'm going to be taking home the sports bumer and wings tomorrow too.

#25: Re: So.... my wheel fell off Author: craigy00craig, Location: surreyPosted: Tue May 03, 2011 12:46 pm ---- I was at my friends doing it and he didn't have one. I think the spacer might not have been pushed all the way on meaning the wheel was allowed to move slightly, loosening the bolts....
#26: Re: So.... my wheel fell off Author: craigy00craig, Location: surreyPosted: Thu May 05, 2011 11:02 am ---- i got my hub and got it fitted this morning. Now just gotta get a new wing and im back to square one
