i've had AA cover a few times. Been "rescued" a few times and i've always serviced my own car and never been asked anything about servicing.

They charged me 95p (list price £2.59) for part number 16488 description HOUSG PLUG SE best be right one, not spending another £28 on oil.............

Rest were:

Air Filter Part No: 1444TJ List Price £14.41
Oil Filter Part No: 1109AY List Price £12.06

He totalled it to £22 something but gave me all 3 for £20 because he had no change.

MOT does NOT check the quality, condition and longevity of engine components. It checks whether the car is in a roadworthy condition and is not a danger to the driver or other roadusers. Obviously some points will be raised during the MOT check but never rely on this...

I service my car myself all in for around £55. It takes 2 hours tops and gives you a feel good DIY feeling...

Isn't that what an MOT is for though?

If the car fails an MOT your servicing hasn't been thorough enough. Failing the MOT means the car isn't roadworthy. Servicing is supposed to maintain road worthiness.

You've taken what I said out of context though by not quoting the full text.

What I mean is that if you do miss something, then it will be picked up by "someone that knows what they're doing" during your MOT.
Thats what advisories are for and if you have a friendly MOT man then he will advise you of anything else to look at too!

You wouldn't want to rely on that though.
