#1: solid to vented disks Author: Lewis1592, Location: Aberdeen, ScotlandPosted: Wed May 04, 2011 3:29 pm ---- hey, got my brakes done by my mechanic before going to glasgow, aparently the friction material was coming off the back of the pad, and the disks were shot. ah well, got them done asap as i had family stuff to get down for. but they cost something like 250-300 to get done.
BUT now im becoming more a fan of modding ect, but more recently i took pug for a country drive, and the road was only something like 6 miles long, did it each way and by the end the brakes were pretty much shot, aka....the smell was quite noticeable. Had this actually on the way down to glasgow as some f**ker decided hed change lane and slow blah blah and ended up my brakes were smelling nice and warm.
Either way, im looking into vented disk brakes. for performance wise, and safety wise, and to look good aswell. but wondering if its even possible to change from solid to vented disks.
What brands would you recommend, not something id particularly like to be using ebay for.
#2: Re: solid to vented disks Author: SAB206, Location: North WestPosted: Wed May 04, 2011 3:39 pm ---- You'd need to change your calipers too mate.
#3: Re: solid to vented disks Author: Seabook, Posted: Wed May 04, 2011 3:39 pm ---- you will need new calipers if you want to change from solid to vent disc
#4: Re: solid to vented disks Author: Lewis1592, Location: Aberdeen, ScotlandPosted: Wed May 04, 2011 3:42 pm ---- is this because of the size of the pads? because ive got hold of the 206 max power book. and they just use a clamp to increase the space for them.
#5: Re: solid to vented disks Author: Seabook, Posted: Wed May 04, 2011 3:44 pm ---- a clamp? on the brake? what a joke.
#6: Re: solid to vented disks Author: NorthantsBen, Location: Raunds, NorthamptonshirePosted: Wed May 04, 2011 3:46 pm ---- i think u mean clamp as in moving piston in abit to replace pads ???
as new pads will be thicker than worn pads.
#7: Re: solid to vented disks Author: Lewis1592, Location: Aberdeen, ScotlandPosted: Wed May 04, 2011 3:46 pm ---- frack me, just typed "206 big brake kit" into google, quite sore on the wallet one must say. any tips on how to get hold of the calipers? what am i actually looking for here. my car only has disks on the front btw

#9: Re: solid to vented disks Author: Lewis1592, Location: Aberdeen, ScotlandPosted: Wed May 04, 2011 3:54 pm ---- disks are easy to find, im more stuggling to find larger calipers at a non bank breaking price
#10: Re: solid to vented disks Author: Lecktorious, Location: ScotlandPosted: Wed May 04, 2011 3:55 pm ---- Get a set of GTi / HDi calipers from eBay. Sold mine for £25.00! That was a while ago right enough

I changed my brakes to GTi brakes on my 1.4 it makes a hell of a lot of difference. It's probably the best modification i've done
I swopped my calipers for GTi ones, and got new disc and green stuff pads.
#22: Re: solid to vented disks Author: Lewis1592, Location: Aberdeen, ScotlandPosted: Thu May 05, 2011 4:03 am ---- yeah it may be a 1.4 but the grampian roads kill the brakes. i swear it was only driving for like 30 mins tops and they were cooked.
yeah i think ill change to gti brakes.
and yeah i paid somthing like 300 for just the front brakes and a rear wheel cylinder. mad huh! so im tryin to learn this sort of stuff to save me money in the future. hate forking out for a garage

Yes they will.
What version of the GTI calipers have you got hold of?
There is 266mm x 20.4mm for the earlier ones
&
266mm x 22mm for the later cars
The pads & discs between the 2 different types are NOT interchangeable
#28: Re: solid to vented disks Author: Lewis1592, Location: Aberdeen, ScotlandPosted: Fri May 06, 2011 1:15 pm ---- ah i never throught that. well i havnt bought them yet. but heres the link. doesnt actually say what the size is.

wardie_206 wrote:

You dont have to BUT if your 206 is one of those with a smaller master cylinder it would be an idea to upgrade.
Anyway your 1.4 16 valve Quicky already has the 266mm x 22mm vented front brake set up like the GTI so you already have the larger master cylinder as standard.

Be an idea to ask the seller if they can include one of the old pads so you can match it up down the motor factors & make sure you get a matching pair of calipers of the same type
#32: Re: solid to vented disks Author: Lewis1592, Location: Aberdeen, ScotlandPosted: Fri May 06, 2011 1:28 pm ---- when you say the new models are different size of pads and disks. do you know what year the difference took place?

You already have GTI front brakes fitted as standard, 266mm x 22mm vented front discs.
there's nothing wrong with that set up on a 1.4, just fit Brembo discs & Ferodo Premier pads when the time comes.
#37: Re: solid to vented disks Author: wardie_206, Location: Rayleigh, essexPosted: Fri May 06, 2011 1:33 pm ---- Lol I new that really seabrook......... NOT lol! Cherze for clearing that up bud.

Nope sorry, the Build code number at the time of change over will be on Peugeot Service box though.
Just had a look.
Up to build code RPO 09078 they used the 20.4mm thick vented discs.
From build code RPO 09079 they used the 22mm thick vented discs.

peugeot...never simple huh haha
Build code will be on the information sticker stuck on the car.
Information sticker is on the passenger side suspension strut top for earler cars.
OR
Later cars the info sticker is on the B post, open the drivers door & you will see it.
You can always look the VIN number up on Peugeot Service box & that will also tell you what type of brakes are fitted.
PSA Peugeot / Citroen are one of the more helpful car companies for putting good information out there on the internet.
