#18: Re: NGK Plugs- Whats the issue? Author: MrrNoName, Location: UKPosted: Thu May 05, 2011 9:56 am ---- the OPs question was to why exactly are they incompatible (for what reason do they not function properly) when they are sold as being suitable, something that no-ones answered lol

Ive answered this question before on the forum:
The phase detection system built in to the coil pack that detects misfires is incompatible with NGK spark plugs.
With NGK plugs fitted you can end up with the HT ignition voltage instead of firing the spark plug it ends up being sent back down the wiring loom which can fry the engine ecu.
It was such a problem that PSA Peugeot / Citroen sent out a technical service bulletin to there dealer networks warning of the issue!

Could they damage the coil pack at all?

Possibly.
Bouricord or Electrofil for the coil pack.
Hope you aint got the original Sagem piece of s**te on there
Any idea if your car has had the earth wire mod fitted to the coil pack connector plug?

It will have the nasty word SAGEM on it somewhere if it one
For the mod:
Peugeot / Citroen part number 6555 K9 Suppressor
Splice one end in to pin 4 on the connector plug, the other end needs to be earthed to the engine block.
Have a look, it might already be fitted.

I think ive seen that word on it before, either that or im thinking of one of the 50 millions peugeot coil packs ive seen over the years.
Dont think it has the mod, litterally had the plug going into the pack with 4 wires, nothing else going anywhere. What does it do?
I would go check , but the weather says otherwise....

Smooths out any electrical spikes on the coil pack wiring.

Ah right. Ill look into it. Just wanna work out, why it's so hessitent to come off idle and rev up to about 2,000 rpm. It seems to take forever to get to there but once you get there it just takes off. (Not litterally but it does rev up quicker than it did pre 2k rpm.)
