How do you get purple, it's a black and white photo. lol
It's what people in the trade call a day/night camera. During the day when light level permits its colour and when the light levels drop it switches to monochrome as you get a better definition in B/W at night. As there was a lot of street lighting around you get this graining monochrome effect with a few colour details.
Also it's worth noting that in moments of panic the human body reacts in two ways, fight or flight. It's not uncommon for people not to stop in these occasions because of panic and not thinking as clearly as they would with retrospect. But it doesn't stop them turning themselves in or the passengers doing the right thing now. And oviously didn't help the poor lad left in a heap. Hope he pulls through.
