#1: Air Con Author: Mrs_Howey, Location: WorthingPosted: Sun May 08, 2011 7:20 am ---- My air con ran out end of last summer, and i had no money to have it re-gased, but i've been given the chance to have it re-gased at work for free. But when i press the air con button nothing happens.
Is this because the compressor is broken, or is it a safety feature that when i re-gas the system it will work again?

#3: Re: Air Con Author: Addaz, Location: SuffolkPosted: Sun May 08, 2011 7:22 am ---- Ermmm, i think either a fuse has popped or the compressor is broked
#4: Re: Air Con Author: Mrs_Howey, Location: WorthingPosted: Sun May 08, 2011 7:32 am ---- Well the fuse hasn't gone, is there any way of checking the compressor? or is it a case of i'm not going to know until it's re-gased?

#6: Re: Air Con Author: brad-morris, Location: BromsgrovePosted: Sun May 08, 2011 7:57 am ---- Edit: When they re-gas it get them to fix the leak too. Most companies just put refrigerant back in without fixing the leak for it to come out again. Last edited by brad-morris on Sun May 08, 2011 7:59 am; edited 1 time in total

#11: Re: Air Con Author: perry081064, Location: staffordshirePosted: Sun May 08, 2011 8:32 am ---- just for clarification though , if indeed there is no gas in the aircon , would the fan still kick in once activated anyway ?

No if you have no gas in the system the air con fan will not kick in, I had the same problem which I thought I was looking at a big bill for but no had the air con re-gassed and it works fine.
So to clear things up, if there is no gas in the system the air con will not activate.

Indeed when the refrigerant reaches a certain temperature the fan kicks in blowing air through the evaporator, the refrigerant absorbs the heat, and cool air is blown into the car

The pressure safety switch wont allow the compressor to engage when there is insufficient gas pressure in the system.
