#1: Spare Key Not Working?? Author: countduckula55, Location: AngleseyPosted: Tue May 10, 2011 9:09 am ---- Hi, I was stumbling around the net when I found this great forum!
I have just bought a 2002 206 GTi and so far am really pleased with it
The car came with 2 keys, 1 of which was dead so I thought it would just be a case of changing the battery! No joy
The key will not open/close the doors or start the car and am not sure what to do with it?
I have seen keys for sale on auction sites but not sure to bother or not due to the programming of them and have looked around for main dealer prices and they seem unreal!
Any advice please??
Thanks

Author: punk, Location: BrumPosted: Tue May 10, 2011 9:44 am ---- Hi Lee, sorry to hijack thread, but iv only got one key which is slightly bent, so what iv done is, brought two blank flip up keys with the blades blank, I'm just going to change the electrics from the dodgy key into one f the new ones and get the blade cut. Simple enough. However I would like another spare key, I don't have that four digit code... How do u go about getting a spare key without having to sell my first born ?
Ps again, thanks for all your help with ecu issue, last 3 weeks car has been starting first time every time.
Regards

Do I have to match the transponders like for like? I think this one has a philips chip in it.
I have seen virgin ones on ebay but would I need to re mortgage the house and take it to Peugeot?
Could I also ask if it is this part that controls the remote unlocking or do I need to replace that to?
Thanks again.

If it is just a spare key, I'd be tempted to just get a valet style key.
You can get the another remote one if you want, but the circuit board will need to match your current one.
You just need the transponder (little back chip) in the key to start the car, and the circuit board for the frequency for the RCL

It is easy to mistake it for a bit of plastic when changing the battery, or it just get knocked out and lost when the fob case is open.
