#1: NIMMINZ' 1.4 project UPDATE JUNE Author: Nimminz, Location: Durham, NE England, UKPosted: Sun Feb 07, 2010 4:14 pm ---- Got my standard 2004 1.4 8v in september 2008. Since then i have done the following:
Exterior
CC'd Morette headlamps
205 GTi (1.9) wheels in Peugeot C---- Grey
SP fuel cap
Gloss black wiper mechanism cover
Badgeless front grille
Renault Clio Mk3 Front splitter
Rear debadge (apart from 206 badge)
206info stickers in rear quarter panel windows
Tunedcar.co.uk Stickers under 206 badge and above Driver's side headlight
Institute of Advanced Motorists sticker in rear window
Interior and ICE
SP Pedals
Peugeot Graphite Grey: -door grab handles
-Alarm button surround and blanks
-Heater vents
Gloss black: -central facia / MFD surround
-speedo binacle (sanded first and satin black reducing reflections)
-fusebox cover (sanded first)
-airbag switch etc. surround (also sanded first)
Fiat swift red: -MFD binacle inside face
-Speedo binacle inside face
-Stereo facia
-heater vent 'fins'
Carbon fibre skinned (DIY): -wing mirror panels
-Door handle surrounds
DIY gauge and switch panel where ashtray used to be - trimmed in leatherette
Footwell neons -REMOVED - 15/12/09
Edge 10" Active Sub
Engine
Polished engine mount (thing at left of rocker cover)
Polished ECU
K&N Cone air filter with Custom built alloy and silicone tubing
Red hammerite'd Power steering hose
CC'd suspension top covers and battery cover
Continued with the leatherette trimming:
And Sprayed the courtesy light surround
and started making a proper ipod dock:
And the next project when i find the pop rivet gun:
Ipod dock next stage:
Next the wheels, Got the 205 ones back on with new-ish khumo ecsta tyres 195/50R15s
Also sprayed the space save white through boredom
While i was changing the wheels i got the hammerite out and did the brakes:
Also sprayed the front grille in Pug graphite grey:
Finally I put the neons out the footwells under the Sub for a bit of extra light in the boot
Just given battery cover, fusebox cover, and suspension top covers last coat of gloss black, waiting for them to dry before i put them back in and take some pictures, here's a couple of the battery and fusebox cover fitted (when the paint was dry) before i gave them another coat:
I reckon it looks better than the moonstone.
The wheels need re painting after the new tyres were fited, was just going to do them the same colour: Peugeot Cossack Grey but as i'd be sanding them all back anyway thought i might choose a different one, any ideas?
Not really fancying black as they really will look like steelies.
Did think a really light gold might look good but everyone i asked said it would look crap.
Pic from forza 3, sorry for the awful quality :
And a better pic of the splitter now its sprayed gloss black:

#2: Re: Nimminz' 1.4 8v Author: Nimminz, Location: Durham, NE England, UKPosted: Sat Feb 13, 2010 2:52 pm ---- Got some mud flaps the other day as the wider wheels kick muck up the side of the car a lot more than the others:
Finally got the Ipod dock working, just needs a respray over the filler:
Got the bonnet gap filler bit stuck on, its been off for ages:
Don't think i posted a pic of my not obviously DIY air filter brackets:
or the gloss black suspension top cover things:
2 more projects in the pipeline:
- LCD in sun visor - an idea I owe to colinn who has loads of great ideas and i'm sure his will look tons better than mine
and an LED fog i'm hoping to make when i find a way of seperating the lens and the holder, hairdryer aint working
And i painted my ainchent battery charger:
Thanks for looking!

Keep the pictures and Mods coming
Hammerite with a cheap 10-for-a-pound paint brush lol.
Tinted rear Ph2 lights should be arriving soon too
Mods coming soon (hopefully)
- tinted lights as said
- few more red hammerite parts in engine bay
- polish exhaust heat shield, engine mount and ECU cover properl
- Gloss black rocker cover
- Re-sprayed wheels
thats about all i can afford at the moment
Thanks for all the comments, i'll try to put a little update up tonight about the fog light project

#18: Re: Nimminz' 1.4 8v Author: Nimminz, Location: Durham, NE England, UKPosted: Sat Feb 20, 2010 3:24 am ---- cheers, i love them. mine are in a right state at the moment
little update:
despite having the fog in boiling water for half an hour to try and help with the super glue, the lens didn't make it off in one peice
Not the end of the world as i might not use it at all. Another problem arose though, the LED cluster is slightly too big so will have to cut 2 channels down the top and bottom then slide it in. Then i'm thinking fill it with epoxy putty or resin then build it up at the front into the origional fog shape but with all the LED's sunk back
like this:
and thourght i'd post this up from the day before yesterday lol
Thanks for looking!

This is the bit i have started
Its the metal bar that goes over the engine mount.
To start with
How it is now
I've re-fitted it while driving but is it actually important?
Think i'll be polishing up parts of the engine rather than dunking them in hammerite
Thanks for looking

could possibly do with laquer on the rear lights? or are they dirty? look a bit...dull in the first couple of pics
#23: Re: Nimminz' 1.4 8v Author: Nimminz, Location: Durham, NE England, UKPosted: Mon Mar 01, 2010 5:33 pm ---- they are matte / satin finish but was contemplating lacquering them, just wanted them fitted to show off tomorrow lol
Not dirty as i gave the back end a quick clean after fitting them, frost on last pic though.
Cheers
#24: Re: NIMMINZ' 1.4 8v PROJECT Author: RicH, Location: South East UKPosted: Wed Mar 03, 2010 8:37 am ---- Hi really like the car what spray paint do you use for for plastics interior etc any special one?
#25: Re: NIMMINZ' 1.4 8v PROJECT Author: Nimminz, Location: Durham, NE England, UKPosted: Wed Mar 03, 2010 2:13 pm ---- Interior plastics were done in the following:
Black - Plasticote satin black (wouldn't use again as its never as good as other paint and all the other laquers apart from the plasticote one reacted with it )
Red - Hycote Fiat swift red - got it from 'boyes' store in Whitby before they stopped selling it
Grey - Hycote Peugeot Graphite grey - as above
Lacquer - Hycote clear lacquer and plasticote lacquer
The wheels were done in Peugeot Cossak grey with no lacquer, wish i had now. This paint was got from halfords.
The halfords stuff is quite good for most things, Its what I'll be using in the future.
Brakes done in Hammerite Red Smooth - For its High temperature resistance
Hope that helps cheers for the comments.
UPDATE:
Got the rear mudflaps on today, will see what the photos I took look like and see if they are worth uploading, It was pitch black by the time I finished. Had to take archliners out as i Couldn't be bothered removing the wheels to fit the screwdriver in, Gave them a good clean and a clean behind them.
Going on a little photoshoot tomorrow so should get some better photos then.
Thanks for looking!

#28: Re: NIMMINZ' 1.4 8v PROJECT Author: Nimminz, Location: Durham, NE England, UKPosted: Fri Mar 05, 2010 2:58 pm ---- cheers. I got the K&N off a mate, just the cone part. Then i bought the chrome tubes and silicone connectors from a site on the net but can't remember what it was
If i remember I'll post it up.
Update:
Just Lacquered the lights, House stinks of the stuff now
Started polishing the metal bits again, they'd gone mucky already, need to lacquer them once they're done.
Brakes are really doing my head in, squeaking whenever i brake and vibrating badly, quite sure its a warped disk so will be replacing both the disks and pads and respraying the wheels
Thanks for looking
#29: Re: NIMMINZ' 1.4 8v PROJECT Author: Nimminz, Location: Durham, NE England, UKPosted: Fri Mar 05, 2010 5:43 pm ---- Pics with rear mud flaps and tinted lights here:
#30: Re: NIMMINZ' 1.4 8v PROJECT Author: Nimminz, Location: Durham, NE England, UKPosted: Sun Mar 21, 2010 6:25 pm ---- Update time...
Got a tinted fog from ad_182_uk, so got that fitted:
Sprayed my exhaust manifold black
before:
During
After
Started refurbishing the wheels:
before
sanding
sanded
primered
painted
Thats how far I am now, one wheel, just needs the rim polishing and the whole thing lacquering. 3 to go...
Doing them Peugeot Cossack grey like before but this time will lacquer them to bring out the metallicness. and they have been sanded smooth this time, think the lad i got them off cut corners when he sprayed them leaving the rim bare metal but polishing it up, then lacquering it.
Next week should be getting a new air filter as mine has a hole in it, will be making a box round it and cold air feed to prevent heat soak from the engine bay.
thanks for looking!

#33: Re: NIMMINZ' 1.4 8v PROJECT Author: Kencoboy, Location: Pembrokeshire, WalesPosted: Mon Mar 22, 2010 12:08 pm ---- loving the wheels man cant wait to see the update on them might try refurbing my 205 wheels myself any problems or tips u can offer?
#34: Re: NIMMINZ' 1.4 8v PROJECT Author: Nimminz, Location: Durham, NE England, UKPosted: Wed Mar 24, 2010 4:05 am ---- Cheers, little update, haven't got very far been at college all the time since Monday
couple of pics though, still on wheel No 2
You can see the second one behind
Tips? don't really know, Lots of patience and 80 grit aper to remove paint and powercoat then 280 grit wet and dry to smooth it off, 600 and 1200 grit wet round the edge to polish. Mine are quite badly curbed from before i had them
Problems
- takes forever sanding by hand
- curbing was deep so won't get perfect edge
- getting paint off round the text was a nightmare
Can't think of anything else,
Thanks for looking!

Loving the refurb on the 205 wheels but personally I don't think the suit the 206.
What stickers you got or do we have to wait to see?
#40: Re: NIMMINZ' 1.4 8v PROJECT (wheel refurb in progress p3) Author: Nimminz, Location: Durham, NE England, UKPosted: Sun Mar 28, 2010 3:48 am ---- Cheers!!
Yeah, Cupra is way common but there are hardly any at my college so i'll be original there
Exhaust is well nice, nice burble on idle, crackles as it comes back down from revving it. overall not too loud, just nice.
The 205 wheels grow on you, one day might change them, never know
Nothing really special, but yeah wait and see
My mate has a vinyl cutter so i can get anything i want cut :D. Still got a couple stickers from antix to put somewhere

Also never got them stickers my file didn't work on his cutter, will be trying again though
really need to get my wheels done need to wait for the weather to pick up so i can spray them outside as i have no garage
#45: Re: NIMMINZ' 1.4 8v PROJECT (wheel refurb in progress p3) Author: boozeman, Location: manchesterPosted: Fri Apr 09, 2010 3:09 am ---- you will get some serious heat soak in the filter if you place it there. Which as you may know will reduce power, try moving it away by putting the alloy tubes back on

Back box polished, paper in there to show how shiney it is:
Sunstrip fitted today, for free

hopefully new interior done by tomorrow, then i'll get started on all the little jobs, making the lights shiney, spraying the bits under the car at the sides black, Finish air filter enclosure, strip doorcards and paint gloss black
etc.

F*ck all that, Number 1 on the list should be to lower it, lots! Thats when a car looks a hell of a lot better, rather than a car modded in bits and peices. Will look ace when lowered!
#53: Re: NIMMINZ' 1.4 8v PROJECT (updated 14th April) Author: Nimminz, Location: Durham, NE England, UKPosted: Wed Apr 14, 2010 6:02 pm ---- all them are cheap mods though and i'm skint.
Do have some eibach 40mm lowering springs, its just getting money to pay someone to get the back end down.
can't have it too low though, i have a rather steep drive
#54: Re: NIMMINZ' 1.4 8v PROJECT (updated 14th April) Author: Nimminz, Location: Durham, NE England, UKPosted: Sat Apr 17, 2010 1:32 am ---- Update:
The car is at the garage getting repaired. on thursday i lost the use of the clutch, think its the release fork snapped inside So I'm without the car for a week. Only the 4th time its gone wrong this year lol.
so far i'v spent more repairing it than modding it or buying it in the first place, over the 1 and a half years or 22000 miles of owning it. Its getting daft. Thinking of fixing it this time, selling all the mods and part exchanging it for something better or at least more reliable.
#55: Re: NIMMINZ' 1.4 8v PROJECT (updated 14th April) Author: Shodoku, Location: West YorkshirePosted: Sat Apr 17, 2010 2:34 am ---- Seems a shame to sell it after all this work? It's

But when it's fixed it will be fine again what's the point in s[ending the money to get the clutch fixed to sell it on?
Just keep it!
#57: Re: NIMMINZ' 1.4 8v PROJECT (updated 14th April) Author: Nimminz, Location: Durham, NE England, UKPosted: Sat Apr 17, 2010 10:14 am ---- Ah but i said that last time, and the time before, and the time before and that only takes me back to xmas lol
Nah will be driving it for a bit longer until i find something that i really want and can afford.
Someone else can enjoy the work i'v put into it, i can do it all again (better ) on the next one.
Want to go euro i think, looking at a 1999 model polo. or a 2001 model clio. dunno yet i'll wait and see.
#58: Re: NIMMINZ' 1.4 8v PROJECT (updated 14th April) Author: Shodoku, Location: West YorkshirePosted: Sat Apr 17, 2010 10:21 am ---- Fair enough. I love the wheels by the way... I might be slightly biased in saying that though as I just got some as well but in chrome black.

and do you mind getting a pic up of how you put the cold air feed please..
#60: Re: NIMMINZ' 1.4 8v PROJECT (updated 14th April) Author: Nimminz, Location: Durham, NE England, UKPosted: Sun Apr 18, 2010 1:39 am ---- will do when i get the car back from garage, pretty sure its the release for snapped on the inside as the garage is running at half the man power its going to take a while.
basically i'm running the scoop to the vent in the cupra splitter the just using ducting to take it up to the filter.
Thats what i WAS going to do. Now i'm putting the standard airbox back on and running the scoop up to that
#61: Re: NIMMINZ' 1.4 8v PROJECT (updated 14th April) Author: vikro, Location: londonPosted: Sun Apr 18, 2010 10:06 pm ---- any chance you coulld post up a diagram of the setup please?

sounds best right up there even though its least effective.
how mch does a set of 205 speedlines usualy go for?your would look kinda sweet on mine with some spacers..

Well, this is about as far as this car will be going under my ownership. I'll be geting a new car within the next month. My little brother will probably be having this one off me when he passes his test so you may see it again.
Now i'm going to start selling bits off and returning it more or less to standard for him to have a blank canvass so to speak.
Definately going for a MK4 Astra if i can find a good one. when't and drive one on saturday and was quite impressed.
Thanks for all the comments etc.

Yeah middle bulbs were the H7 SMD LED's, Was a white light with a hint of blue but they were dimmer than my standard sidelights.
HDi Interior, swapped all the seats and front doorcards, only bit i sprayed was the fabric in the panels in the back.
Aye those seats would be nice but as i said in my PM to gav, i'm changing it for an astra soon so no real point, and i'm skint

Hammerite'd the edges of the brake disks black and the rear drums

Temporarily fitted the air/fuel ratio guage
