hay guys yet again my gti 180 is playing up. been reading tho all the post on here and im thinking its the vvt solenoid. but just fort i would check with everyone b4 i commit my self to a new one. basically my car feels like a 1.1 (could not even keep up with my mate in his 1.6 focus even tho i normally kill him) feels sluggish and there is no induction noise that i used to have. ive had the solenoid out and cleaned it and made no diff. could the solenoid hav completely packed up?? btw no fault codes present ether.

If it was the VVT there'd normally be a fault code when it's read.

Yea should do, as soon as a malfunction is detected it should throw up a code, although the Engine Management light won't necessarily come on. Mine did it a few times but changed the solenoid and all is ok now, although the symptoms aren't the same as yours.

Retail is around £80 just buy a new one as it will only happen again and again. you could get one from a breakers but you dont see any 180s in there but the 1.4 16v has vvt and the solenoids fit each other
