#3: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: eddrj, Location: BerkshirePosted: Sun May 15, 2011 12:51 pm ---- goes high in traffic dont think fans working, never overheated though no , heater is working yeah.
Just gone out and its still hissing at me lol like a snake coming from coolant tank notice it when been for a drive then get back look under bonnet and hear it . Last edited by eddrj on Sun May 15, 2011 12:58 pm; edited 1 time in total
#4: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: bigtony85, Location: NottinghamPosted: Sun May 15, 2011 12:58 pm ---- sounds like back pressuring aka head gasket probably
#5: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: cartoonhead, Location: North ManchesterPosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:02 pm ---- have you bled it by the 2 bleed places ?
#6: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: eddrj, Location: BerkshirePosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:02 pm ---- but the oil and coolant are fine arent sluggey brown colour thought that was main symton of head gasket and no coolant leak .
I have nothing else wrong just werid air noise .
#7: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: perry081064, Location: staffordshirePosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:02 pm ---- sounds like its got a fair bit of back pressure.
could be the start of a headgasket failure, it may be worth your while having it checked at a garage to see if gasses are present in the cooling system, also check the coolant for oil in the mixture.
#8: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: eddrj, Location: BerkshirePosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:03 pm ---- Not sure ,my mechanic did it so i duno about the bleed srews
#9: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: bigtony85, Location: NottinghamPosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:07 pm ---- get the coolant sniff checked. the coolant and oil dont need to b sludgy to mean a blown headgasket.
#10: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: eddrj, Location: BerkshirePosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:08 pm ---- coolant sniff ?? also thought loss of power is a sign and goes well the same
#11: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: cartoonhead, Location: North ManchesterPosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:11 pm ---- there's 2 bleed places.
one is at the front and there's another thats on the pipes that go to the heater matrix

#12: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: bigtony85, Location: NottinghamPosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:11 pm ---- like perry said they test for gasses in the coolant. with a blue fluid in a tube if it turns bright yellow/green there is a head gasket fault dont have to b down on power ether.

garage will put a special mix into a tubey type thing and suck the mixture.
( if it turns dark blue , bend over and pass him the vasaline )

#15: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: eddrj, Location: BerkshirePosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:14 pm ---- ok there are the 2 bleed places,
what do i do and how much do i turn them i havent got a clue lol soz .
Ok il get my mechnic to take a look at it
#16: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: cartoonhead, Location: North ManchesterPosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:15 pm ---- undo them till water or air starts to come out
#17: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: eddrj, Location: BerkshirePosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:16 pm ---- so just undo them till water or air comes out thats it both them , which one first lol dont it matter ? when its cold u mean ? #18: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: bigtony85, Location: NottinghamPosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:17 pm ---- if there is an air lock it should cause the engine to seriously over heat because one the coolant wont b circulating thro the system and two air heats up more than coolant
#19: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: cartoonhead, Location: North ManchesterPosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:21 pm ---- no need to drain it.
unscrew 1 till you have constant water coming out then just tighten it up then do the same with the other one
#20: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: eddrj, Location: BerkshirePosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:21 pm ---- its got to 95 other day in traffic but not in the red top bit or no STOP light
so is really hot though duno what temp is overheating ?
#21: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: cartoonhead, Location: North ManchesterPosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:24 pm ----
bigtony85 wrote:

on the HDI there's a problem of the heater matrix getting blocked wich only drops the temp in side the car but there's NO over heating as it still circulates thru the engine
#22: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: bigtony85, Location: NottinghamPosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:25 pm ---- you can try and bleed it to eliminate it but i suggest you find a local garage to check your coolant for the present of exhaust gasses.
#23: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: eddrj, Location: BerkshirePosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:26 pm ---- so worth bleeding it or just go to mechanic to do it and see what he thinks it is
#24: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: bigtony85, Location: NottinghamPosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:30 pm ---- sniff test would b the first thing i did if i had a vehicle come in to my workshop with a hissing header tank cap. just a very quick way to eliminate it being a head gasket fault
#25: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: cartoonhead, Location: North ManchesterPosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:31 pm ---- try bleeding it to see if it cures and if it does go ask your mechanic why he had not bled it correctly then look for a new mechanic
#26: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: eddrj, Location: BerkshirePosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:32 pm ---- ok thats what im confused about had coolant changed not long ago thought he wuda done this.
So all i do is turn bleed screw with cap off ? Last edited by eddrj on Sun May 15, 2011 1:33 pm; edited 1 time in total
#27: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: cartoonhead, Location: North ManchesterPosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:33 pm ---- depends if he knew about the screw at the back for the matrix which is not in plain view

he must know both of them which one should i bleed?
they all called peugeot mechnics lol {cowboys}
#30: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: bigtony85, Location: NottinghamPosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:35 pm ---- try both mate
#31: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: eddrj, Location: BerkshirePosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:36 pm ---- ok with cap on off what ? i aint gotta clue
so just bleed them screws do and nothing else ?? Last edited by eddrj on Sun May 15, 2011 1:37 pm; edited 1 time in total

#34: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: eddrj, Location: BerkshirePosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:41 pm ---- so its that easy just bleed screws anything else gotta do while im doing that or thats it ?
radiator cap off /on ?
#35: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: bigtony85, Location: NottinghamPosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:41 pm ---- not 100% sure on a pug. but on all the trucks i hav had to coolant bleed leave cap off, engine running and unscrew the bleed screw/screws untill there is no air hissing out of them and just coolant then close them bk up. do it with a stone cold engine tho to avoid scalding yourself
#36: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: cartoonhead, Location: North ManchesterPosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:44 pm ---- this is the matrix bleed screw

#38: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: eddrj, Location: BerkshirePosted: Sun May 15, 2011 1:45 pm ---- ok il, try that one then till air has gone hopefully can i do with engine off or have to be engine running ?
#39: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: cartoonhead, Location: North ManchesterPosted: Sun May 15, 2011 2:00 pm ---- engine running / ticking over .
if nothing come's out leave it open till water appears or if waters there straight away close it and try the next one

#41: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: eddrj, Location: BerkshirePosted: Sun May 15, 2011 2:13 pm ---- did it noise has gone but bit of coolant water came out do i screw it back up tight again went for a drive not making hissing noise like last time
#42: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: cartoonhead, Location: North ManchesterPosted: Sun May 15, 2011 2:20 pm ---- did you drive with any of the bleed points open
open-check for air then close then check the next one , when both have been checked have a look at the water level in the water bottle , top up if need be , then test drive
#43: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: eddrj, Location: BerkshirePosted: Sun May 15, 2011 2:23 pm ---- no well wasnt real tight bit water came out made sure it shut now properly .
Least not making stupid hissing noise thats done it only thing i find it impossible to check coolant level really do ?
cant seem to find other bleed screw but if noise has gone then should be ok getting dark now anywayz
#44: Re: Air , hiossing noise coming from coolant tank Author: cartoonhead, Location: North ManchesterPosted: Sun May 15, 2011 2:26 pm ---- as tight as you can get them by hand will be ok.
#45: Re: Air , hissing noise coming from coolant tank Author: eddrj, Location: BerkshirePosted: Sun May 15, 2011 2:32 pm ---- holy s**t na is still making flipping noise
wasnt straight after like before il check other one tmoz if i can find it and how do you see through coolant because i find it well hard almost impossible to see the level duno how much coolant i lost probably only tiny bit
#46: Re: Air , hissing noise coming from coolant tank Author: bigtony85, Location: NottinghamPosted: Sun May 15, 2011 2:49 pm ---- shine a torch in to the header tank and u will b able to see the level clearer
#47: Re: Air , hissing noise coming from coolant tank Author: eddrj, Location: BerkshirePosted: Sun May 15, 2011 2:58 pm ---- Cartoonhead the other screw i think is at bottom mid near radiator on and by thermastat its not in exact place as urs is it because mines a 2000 i actaully havent got bleed screw in same place heater matrix yeah but other is different place .Or i only have one bleed screw ? looks like one at end of thermastat mid in middle of radiator not right habd side like in your pic .
I just tries that still cant see level atall and its a bright good torch , this coolant bottles are s**t why they make it so hard meant to be easy checking coolant level . there's gotta be a easy way surely and the joke is if you fill it so you can see it thats a fair bit over max .
Would it hurt it much being bit over the max level ?
And its 50/50 water, coolant rite ?
#48: Re: Air , hissing noise coming from coolant tank Author: bigtony85, Location: NottinghamPosted: Sun May 15, 2011 3:04 pm ---- it should just spew any excess coolant out
yeh most coolants 50/50
#49: Re: Air , hissing noise coming from coolant tank Author: eddrj, Location: BerkshirePosted: Sun May 15, 2011 3:05 pm ---- ok thanks
so should be fine to put bit more in over max ? ,
so i can at least see it better than none in there suppose because its the only way i can see if there's any in there .
#50: Re: Air , hissing noise coming from coolant tank Author: bigtony85, Location: NottinghamPosted: Sun May 15, 2011 3:09 pm ---- yeh wont kill it if there's too much in it it should spew it out of an overflow and get its own level.
#51: Re: Air , hissing noise coming from coolant tank Author: eddrj, Location: BerkshirePosted: Sun May 15, 2011 3:09 pm ---- ok cheers
#52: Re: Air , hissing noise coming from coolant tank Author: eddrj, Location: BerkshirePosted: Mon May 16, 2011 12:54 am ---- Think its sorted i did the other one tiny bit tight it back up,
topped up coolant and think its done the trick seems ok now ,
not making noise after 2 quick trips in my car for a test run .
#53: Re: Air , hissing noise coming from coolant tank Author: mattievrs, Location: LeicesterPosted: Mon May 16, 2011 3:27 am ---- Id buy a new coolant tank lid mate. Sounds like the seal has gone in it. The caps are also self bleeding so you shouldnt have air in the system.
#54: Re: Air , hissing noise coming from coolant tank Author: eddrj, Location: BerkshirePosted: Mon May 16, 2011 5:39 am ---- ok , i ordered one last nite cause there only bout £6 .
Hate the way you just cant see in the damn coolant tank it must be the most stupid thing about the 206 lol .

The system isn't self bleeding, that's why it has bleed screws fitted.
#56: Re: Air , hissing noise coming from coolant tank Author: eddrj, Location: BerkshirePosted: Tue May 17, 2011 1:44 pm ---- also got new coolant lid def needed new one,
because new one feels so much more tight and better can feel the 15 psi if you get what i mean before was just a bit tight .
