#1: Do i buy or not? Author: acotton21, Location: NottsPosted: Mon May 16, 2011 8:29 am ---- Here
Mate of mine wants a cheap car untill he passes his test so he can fix up a little.
We've seen this one...
What do you think and do you think it would be expensive to sort out?
Thanks Ant

No idea how much it would cost to sort out though.
#3: Re: Do i buy or not? Author: acotton21, Location: NottsPosted: Mon May 16, 2011 8:34 am ---- how much is it to sort a head gasket out?
#4: Re: Do i buy or not? Author: devman, Location: Hoddesdon, HertsPosted: Mon May 16, 2011 8:37 am ---- Seems an odd diagnosis to me, without seeing it anyway. If it is the head gasket probably about £350 unless you did it yourself.

#6: Re: Do i buy or not? Author: Abzynthe, Posted: Mon May 16, 2011 8:38 am ---- Most places would want to do the water pump etc at the same time, so could get about £500
#7: Re: Do i buy or not? Author: Seb, Location: Under your bedPosted: Mon May 16, 2011 8:39 am ---- The gasket kit is about £50, new bolts are about £10, torque wrench is £20, so £80 to change the head gasket.
Unless you wanted to do the cambelt as well... which is about £50

Look elsewhere.

I wouldnt want to risk it my self incase the heads need skimming.

This. Not exactly spoilt for choice and buying a car that you know is knackered is always risky unless a) you're sure how much it's going to cost or b) you have a lot of technical knowledge/expertise/tools to do it yourself.
