#1: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: alanamh, Posted: Fri May 20, 2011 1:21 pm ---- I AM SICK TO THE BACK BLOODY TEETH!!!!
Tracking keeps going out.
IN January my steering wheel was shaking badly, took to local garage, needed 2 new front tyres as they were mis shaped. (they had been on about 5 years) this solved the shaky steering wheel, all was fine...UNTIL about a week later when tracking when out, took back to garage who said the tyres take a while to settle so re traced for free and ever since then it's been a nightmare.
The tracking keeps bloody going out!!!!
IN march the garage changed my steering rack end as said there was slight play on it - all was fine again until about a week after when the problem started again.
I must of had the tracking done 15 times since January and the wheels re balanced god know how many times.
Ive been to 3 garages and none seem to know what it is. I need my car for my job and need it to be reliable but to tell you the truth I don't feel safe in it at the moment especially on the motorway at high speeds.
Smeone give me some ideas please
#2: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: Seabook, Posted: Fri May 20, 2011 1:22 pm ---- wishbone and trackrod end.
#3: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Fri May 20, 2011 1:23 pm ---- They aren't kwik fit / halfords style garages are they?
#4: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: alanamh, Posted: Fri May 20, 2011 1:25 pm ---- No local independant ones
#5: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: alanamh, Posted: Fri May 20, 2011 1:26 pm ---- track rod end is that not the same as steering rack end?
and which parts are the wishbones
#6: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: Seabook, Posted: Fri May 20, 2011 1:28 pm ---- wishbone
#7: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: cartoonhead, Location: North ManchesterPosted: Fri May 20, 2011 1:28 pm ---- has any of them even bothered to check the front Ie wishbones, wheel bearings, top mount bearings ?
#8: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: Rob2859, Location: HalifaxPosted: Fri May 20, 2011 1:28 pm ---- alloys could be buckled? Check the wishbone bushes for splits etc. Possibly top mounts?
#9: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: alanamh, Posted: Fri May 20, 2011 1:33 pm ---- Alloys are new only got them last week - kinda hoping they would solve problem but haven't the garages have all said they have checked everything and found nothing.
i am going to take it peugeot in monday (having to take time off work!) and ask them, I will suggest the wishbone and track rod to them. I didnt want to go there as i know they aren't cheap but if they can get it fixed then its worth the extra i suppose
#10: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Fri May 20, 2011 1:38 pm ---- Only fit GENUINE Peugeot parts on the front suspension, total waste of time & money fitting anything else

You need to find out exactly whats wrong with it before you replace any parts.
Just throwing new parts at a car in the hope of fixing a problem just ends up with a large dent in your wallet.
#14: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: alanamh, Posted: Fri May 20, 2011 1:54 pm ---- I know but just say it was those would it be expensive?

If a Peugeot main dealer was fitting them then yes due to there labour charges for fitting.
#16: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: alanamh, Posted: Fri May 20, 2011 1:58 pm ---- Thats why I didnt want to take it there but I ve lost faith in the other garages ive been to and certainly not taking it to kwik fit!!!
#17: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: alanamh, Posted: Fri May 20, 2011 2:11 pm ---- just been looking online also and peopel said it could be something to do with the gears. they have been a bit stiff recently and i have had trouble putting it in reverse...any thoughts?

Its an MA gearbox, there all basically like that due to the 1980's design
Gearbox oil ever been changed?
If it has hope it had the correct oil from Peugeot / Citroen put in it
#19: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: alanamh, Posted: Fri May 20, 2011 2:17 pm ---- no idea ive had it serviced last week so they should of done that shouldnt they? so all peugeot gearboxs are annoying then?

alanamh wrote:

Nope, you just have to learn how to use them correctly.
Dont expect a Ford / Vauxhall style gearchange from a car from the PSA stable
#21: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: alanamh, Posted: Fri May 20, 2011 2:22 pm ---- Haha well ive had it 12 months and still struggle with reverse some people must think i cant drive, its sooooo annoying when doing 3 point turn
#22: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: Seabook, Posted: Fri May 20, 2011 2:37 pm ---- smooth and steady is the key, forcing into gear is just a nono

#30: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Fri May 20, 2011 3:12 pm ---- Possible the diff slightly tight or the gears knocked slightly out of line with the driveshafts.
Have you had the car lase aligned to make sure it's not the chassis thats twisted?
BTW my cousin is calles Alana, so I guessed you were female
#31: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: alanamh, Posted: Fri May 20, 2011 3:21 pm ---- yeah I had it laser aligned last month but problem came back. i will mention gears to them then just to make sure.
#32: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: M60SHW, Location: CarlislePosted: Fri May 20, 2011 3:24 pm ---- does it pull at a constant rate whatever road you on, or is it more of a jerking like it wants to throw you of the road??
#33: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: alanamh, Posted: Fri May 20, 2011 3:26 pm ---- both really
at speeds up to 40 its a constant pull to the left
over 40 and it starts jerking, thats why its so scary on the motorway...i really have problems controlling it
#34: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: M60SHW, Location: CarlislePosted: Fri May 20, 2011 3:35 pm ---- does it jerk when going around corners aswell? or feels like the steering wheels loose for a split second?
#35: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: alanamh, Posted: Fri May 20, 2011 3:38 pm ---- when turning corners (at a speed) my back end feels like its driving on ice and as if the car is gonna spin :S
#36: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: M60SHW, Location: CarlislePosted: Fri May 20, 2011 3:46 pm ---- Id be getting the wishbones and hubs checked next,
If you have anywere near you with a decent computerised tracking system get them to see how far the back is out aswell as it might have been fighting with a cerb sometime in its life.
(around here alot of garage's dont track cars properly, I got tort completely wrong at my first garage, and a few iv seen since only use the front two laser gages to set the car paralell)
#37: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: alanamh, Posted: Fri May 20, 2011 3:49 pm ---- i will just take to peugeot and explain everythnig and suggest what has been suggested. i dont mind payin £1000 as long as it sorts it

Try chorley street garage, or nip into ACE on Chorley Old Road and see where he recommends. He's been about for years and knows most of the decent garages.
Which area of Bolton are you. I'm in Westhoughton.
#42: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: alanamh, Posted: Sat May 21, 2011 5:42 am ---- Ive been to chorley street garage thats the one i use but they cant find out what it is just keep re setting tracking but there's an underlying problem somewhere!!! i live in heaton but used to live in westhoughton i probably know you lol
#43: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Sat May 21, 2011 5:50 am ---- Only been here a year, but may have seen me flying along Beaumont Road.
Chorley Street know their stuff. There is Perfect Finish on Gladstone Road Farnworth. they will be able to check the chassis for you on a jig to make sure it's not that. Just starts getting expensive though.
Are your tyres wearing funny or car just pulling?
#44: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: alanamh, Posted: Sat May 21, 2011 5:56 am ---- I know its ridiculous thankfully CSG havent charged me when ive gone back. I dont know farnworth that well. Yeah Beaumont Road is great not when your car is doing what mine is doing though scary at 50. Pulling and jolting
#45: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Sat May 21, 2011 6:01 am ---- If you go down Plodder Lane to the lights at the bottom, turn left and stay left at the fork (one way bit) perfect finish is on the left.
#46: Re: I am going to push my car off a cliff!!!!!! Author: alanamh, Posted: Sat May 21, 2011 6:04 am ---- I will pop in on monday if they cant help im afraid its going to peugeot.
Smithy garage in westhoughton is good might nip back there too
