#1: MOT Question. Author: bobsparkle, Location: ScotlandPosted: Fri May 20, 2011 5:21 pm ---- Was just wondering if anyone knows whether headrests are needed for a MOT? I've recently removed mine but the MOT is due and i need to know if they are needed so i can stick them back in for the day.
Cheers.

Once again short, sweet and correct answers from Lee
What most people seem to forget is that the MOT is there to check that the body and vehicle structure, windscreen, wipers and washers, doors, seatbelts, seats, mirrors, horn, brakes, steering, suspension, exhaust system, exhaust CO2 emissions, fuel system, tyres, wheels, lights, bonnet, boot and tailgate, towbar, and registration plates (Wikipedia) all conform to the current safety standards.
After market modifications cannot fail the MOT test unless they pose a safety risk to either the occupants or other road users or stop the car conforming to the current standards.

Off topic, but you know they will require steering wheel airbag and what not, it's obviously going to be for cars that came standard with them?
That saying, what if you have had the same racing wheel for the last 10 years, suddenly you have to go out and buy a new wheel + airbag + wire it all back up.
It's like they should say any car from now should follow these rules, but going back on themselves when the rules weren't even in place seems a tad unfair.

If your stupid enough to remove airbags on a road car then you deserve to fail the mot
Its about time VOSA cracked down on all the stupid mods people carry out.

Road legal track cars? Not talking about chavs in their bangin' saxos and crap, I know of quite a few people who have built track cars in such a way and have had it like that for years. To suddenly introduce the rules which were not in place when the modifying was taken place doesn't sound very fair.

#11: Re: MOT Question. Author: Seb, Location: Under your bedPosted: Sat May 21, 2011 5:37 am ---- Get a friendly MOT tester? Mine is in for it today down in Northampton. Fingers crossed but I bet the brake compensator fails it.
#12: Re: MOT Question. Author: Seb, Location: Under your bedPosted: Sat May 21, 2011 5:49 am ---- Just failed on rear brake pads and headlight alignment. Seems my penetrating oil freed up the compensator well enough though!
