#1: 1.4 HDI Remap Author: ma.langan, Location: Leyland, LancashirePosted: Mon May 23, 2011 5:59 pm ---- Right,
I have a particularly large sum of money coming into my bank account on friday and want to remap my car, however, at the minuet it is still all standard engine, air filter and exhaust. What I want is the most power but the same fuel consumption (i.e. 600 miles to a tank) Should I upgrade the exhaust system and air intake system? And would this affect fuel consumption or can I expect good results from just the standard in and out thats already on?
thanks aaron.
#2: Re: 1.4 HDI Remap Author: Seabook, Posted: Mon May 23, 2011 6:41 pm ---- more likely make no difference on power with changing the air filter and exhuast
#3: Re: 1.4 HDI Remap Author: Antknee, Location: ManchesterPosted: Mon May 23, 2011 9:14 pm ---- i;ve hollowed out the cat on mine and its made quite a difference to the throttle response and it tends to want to rev more freely, i imagine a remap would make this even more responsive with maybe a tad more power when you put your foot down

But will a different exhaust affect fuel economy?
#5: Re: 1.4 HDI Remap Author: Jamie, Location: Ring y0Posted: Tue May 24, 2011 3:00 am ---- More power requires more fuel. That's how engines work.
#6: Re: 1.4 HDI Remap Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Tue May 24, 2011 3:01 am ---- 1.4 HDI uses the MA gearbox, be careful
#7: Re: 1.4 HDI Remap Author: steviebee, Location: kentPosted: Tue May 24, 2011 3:03 am ---- Hi first post. I will be getting my wife a 1.4 HDI over the next couple of weeks. I have been looking at a Synergie 1 unit from tuning-diesels.com These units get a good report on the Rover Forum, cost about £170 and supposed to increase torque and reduce fuel consumption. Anybody fitted one of these?
Regards
Steve.

Not much of a husband, the 1.4 hdi isnt a very good engine
Get her a bulletproof 2.0 hdi instead, there is a low tax bracket version that is the same to tax as a 1.4 but these are pretty rare.
#9: Re: 1.4 HDI Remap Author: steviebee, Location: kentPosted: Tue May 24, 2011 3:52 am ---- Hi, thanks for the reply. I think I would sooner her have the 2.0 HDI as we do make several trips a year to France (650 miles each way and mainly motorway) and I was a little concerned it might be too much for a 1.4. Your views on this would be much appreciated.
Regards
Steve.
#10: Re: 1.4 HDI Remap Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Tue May 24, 2011 3:57 am ---- The 2.0 HDI is a well proven bulletproof engine thats been around since the late 1990's thats easily able & proven to do 400K + miles if looked after.
2 known weak points that PSA Peugeot / Citroen have fixed with modified parts.
The bottom crank pulley.
The engine cover clip.
Also whatever you do, dont put petrol in a hdi engine as it ruins the fuel pump & costs a fortune to put right
There the best diesel engine choice for the 206 & a lot of the older PSA range of cars / vans.
Also the 2.0 hdi will come with the stronger BE gearbox.

What's wrong with it out of curiosity? Was considering 'downgrading' at some point for the better fuel economy!

The engine is known to be problematic & its got the wrong gearbox on for a diesel.
A 2.0 hdi driven correctly can be nearly as good on fuel as the 1.4 hdi.
The 2.0 hdi lump is basically just bulletproof & what you want from a diesel lump.

Ah fair enough. I think mine may be the exception though!
#14: Re: 1.4 HDI Remap Author: steviebee, Location: kentPosted: Tue May 24, 2011 4:10 am ---- Hi MRBSI, many thanks for that. I think it will have to be the 2.0 then.
Many Thanks
Steve
#15: Re: 1.4 HDI Remap Author: ma.langan, Location: Leyland, LancashirePosted: Tue May 24, 2011 6:01 am ---- so remap or not to remap?
#16: Re: 1.4 HDI Remap Author: smiddies, Location: BrightonPosted: Tue May 24, 2011 7:06 am ---- Dont remap a 1.4.... no point tbh... you will get best results from a decent service over a remap!!!
#17: Re: 1.4 HDI Remap Author: devman, Location: Hoddesdon, HertsPosted: Tue May 24, 2011 7:11 am ---- On the subject of remaps - does anyone on here know where to get it done cheaply (but properly)?
I know there are plenty of cowboys that balls it up, but at the same time I begruge paying £300 to just be plugged into a computer...
It's for a 2.0, want mine remapped for economy.
#18: Re: 1.4 HDI Remap Author: devman, Location: Hoddesdon, HertsPosted: Tue May 24, 2011 7:12 am ---- P.S - i'm not tight, I bought the car to save me money and it's skinting me!

tell me where i can get oil and filters that give me the equivalent of 22BHP and 45NM that i got from remapping this engine...
i've had the car in the family for five years now, it's been remapped for four years, and to be honest it has been as reliable as any other 206.
like any car if you undertake proactive maintenance you'll have a more reliable car.
#20: Re: 1.4 HDI Remap Author: ma.langan, Location: Leyland, LancashirePosted: Tue May 24, 2011 8:54 am ---- Jus done a full service; brake oil, gear oil, coolant, engine oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter and thers no differece. So when rs tuning say I can get 95bhp from my car they wrong?
#21: Re: 1.4 HDI Remap Author: skard, Location: UK - NorthPosted: Tue May 24, 2011 9:02 am ---- i think smiddies is referring to the 1.4 petrol.
yes you should remap it, in my opinion. i got it done with rs tuning in 2007 and the figurs quoted are right.
they are all just numbers at the end of the day though, it's the driveability of the car that makes it worthwhile, and the economy has been maintained when driven the same.

you use more fuel when accelerate, but less when curesing around.
so balanced out.

unreliable because of the MA5 box. 2.0 run BE4/5 box
