#1: My brake compensator is seized Author: alanamh, Posted: Fri Jun 03, 2011 1:39 pm ---- Peuegot quoted £47.40 to fix, what I want to know is can having a seized brake compensator affevt your steering/handling in anyway?
#2: Re: My brake compensator is seized Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Fri Jun 03, 2011 1:46 pm ---- Affects the braking distribution to the rears. Will fail the MOT for it.
Normally spraying it in penetration fluid would do the trick and free it up. Mines been seized about 2 times.
#3: Re: My brake compensator is seized Author: alanamh, Posted: Fri Jun 03, 2011 1:49 pm ---- well my car passed MOT last week and im p***ed off, i took my car into peugeot and they did a check on it and said that it was seized but the stupid garage i took it to passed the mot!!!! do you think i should complain about that?
#4: Re: My brake compensator is seized Author: alanamh, Posted: Fri Jun 03, 2011 1:50 pm ---- and can this affect steering of car? ive been having problems with steering but peuegot said everything is fine apart from this seized compensator so im thinking thats been the problem with the steering or am i wrong?
#5: Re: My brake compensator is seized Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Fri Jun 03, 2011 1:53 pm ---- Nah nothing to do with steering.
tbh its seized on most cars, due to time and age and lack of rear set passengers.
Just soak it in WD40/penetrating oil
#6: Re: My brake compensator is seized Author: richpowell91, Location: Melton Mowbray LeicestershirePosted: Fri Jun 03, 2011 1:54 pm ---- Are you sure its seized and that peugeot are not trying to get some money out of you? I work in a garage that does MOT's and 90% of 206's are failed with at least one thing being the compensator seized, because of that it almost becomes second nature for the tester to check it straight away
#7: Re: My brake compensator is seized Author: alanamh, Posted: Fri Jun 03, 2011 1:57 pm ---- dunno thats what they said, they told me its not serious but quoted me for the job anyway so they dont seem too fussed wether i go back and get it done or not but have been thinking about it, they did say it was really common on 206's
#8: Re: My brake compensator is seized Author: Liam-HuTcH, Location: PeterboroughPosted: Fri Jun 03, 2011 1:58 pm ---- happened on mine but while going through mot it freed its self off.
#9: Re: My brake compensator is seized Author: alanamh, Posted: Fri Jun 03, 2011 1:59 pm ---- just read up that it can affect wheel alignment which is the problem ive been having with mine, i think its worth getting done to try and solve my long term problem!

Just spray some WD40 on it, and bounce up and down in the back seat/boot. It's only a spring.
#11: Re: My brake compensator is seized Author: alanamh, Posted: Fri Jun 03, 2011 2:10 pm ---- lol does that really work? well...i can try it anyway!
#12: Re: My brake compensator is seized Author: Seabook, Posted: Fri Jun 03, 2011 2:24 pm ---- if it passed mot why bother? lol

This must be one of the daftest things I've heard.
Phone VOSA and say "my car passed the MOT and it shouldn't have done"
I've heard of people complaining because they didn't think the car should have failed, but never complaining their car passed.
Just get the WD on it and keep on top of the maintenance.

My other half says things like that lol
Had mot passed then went for service month later ball joints track rod ends and drop links all had play so other half said you should take it back to the mot place and ask why they passed it.
I told her to shut up and sit back down lol
#15: Re: My brake compensator is seized Author: Seb, Location: Under your bedPosted: Fri Jun 03, 2011 4:24 pm ---- Sometimes WD40 won't work.
Use proper penetrating oil. Get a screwdriver and wiggle it around inside, scraping out all the crap from inside. That fixed mine.

#22: Re: My brake compensator is seized Author: Coolspot, Location: East SussexPosted: Sun Jun 05, 2011 7:16 am ---- I sprayed Wd40 onto mine left ot for a while then sprayed it again. I then gave it the required wiggle and a gentle tease with a wire brush to remove any crap build up it moves now but my car is not currently being used but it moves.
I have never been advised about being seized and always passed MOTs or had advisory about more pressing things like brake discs seizing or suspension leaking.
#23: Re: My brake compensator is seized Author: alanamh, Posted: Sun Jun 05, 2011 7:20 am ---- If I'm honest I don't even know where the brake compensator is :s I know it's a the back some where
