hey just installed the new sports bumper i bought , but just out of curiosity is there anything else i need to do other than plug them in as they dont seem to be working, the wires for them were already there as blanks and fit perfectly onto the rear of the fogs so im more or less 100% sure theyre rght, just wondering if there's anything else i need to do to get them working again
any help would be awesome!!
Cheers!

Fuse

Does your current light switches have the option for front and rear fogs? Or just rear?

BSI needs options need editing, and you need a new fusebox more than likely

well although that video is nice it didnt really help Razz if anything it just annoyed me a little more haha
but yeah so whats the downside to just wiring it straight to your rear fog light and how can it be done ??
also if thats the case with the fusebox can i just get one from a gti and swap them over or is there aspace in mine which requires a certain fuse??
And will i deffinately need a bsi update ?? and how much is it??

How do you want them to work?

With fog lights and main beam?

errm im not entirely sure to be honest!! lol if thats the most common function of them then aye i guess lol!!

also i wouldve thought that been as the wires to fit them were already there that the rest would be simple?? strange!! Sad

Two 30amp 4 pin relays

Relay one
power = +12v from fuse box
earth = chassis earth
output = both fogs
switch = feed from rear fog

Realy two
power = +12v from fuse box
earth = chassis earth
output = both fogs
switch = feed from main beam

Will any old relay work? like one from Halfords!

well not to sound rude but i think i wouldnt bother asking if i couldnt be bothered to do it , and im up for the hassle as i want them in, hats the point in having them there and not utilising them?? but yeah im not trying to sound funny but yeah i want 'em!! haha

#16: Re: front fogs help !!! Author: Lee, Location: England PostPosted: Sat Jun 04, 2011 9:02 am

You either can update the BSI [change the settings] to activate the fogs, and you also more than likely need a new engine fuse box if you don't have the space for the fog fuse.

Or you can retro fit it by relays.

You can either have them come on with the rear fog or rear fog + dipped beam.

Just rear fog requires one relay. Other option requires two.

You will also need some wire, crimps and t-taps/scotch locks [unless you are willing to solder].

Fog the rear fog lamp feed, might be easier to route a wire from the rear of the car to the front [to avoid tapping into wire in the BSI].

#17: Re: front fogs help !!! Author: rudymason, Location: wales PostPosted: Sat Jun 04, 2011 9:05 am

so id need to tap into the rear fog and the front dipped's if i want them to come on with just the rear fog, and with the rear fog and dipped beam or is it one or the other with the 2 relays??

how much is it to have a bsi update, and doing this would it just activate the fogs without any relays or fuses??

#18: Re: front fogs help !!! Author: Lee, Location: England PostPosted: Sat Jun 04, 2011 9:08 am
    ----
No

You either have a BSI update AND new fuse box[if you don't have the space for the front fog light fuse]. Probably costs 1/2 - 1 labour for BSI update.

If you are using relays. You will need to tap into the fog light wire no matter what [if you want the fogs to behave normally].

You only need to tap into the main beam wire if you want them to come on with your main beam

The above the same for Pre-plexed Lee? (Taping into rear foglight - Not the other options)

k brilliant thanks Smile
so could i get a new fuse box from a scrappy car or are they cheap enough to buy ?? Smile
also which would say would be the easiest and cheapest ??

Yeah the same, or you could tap into the wires coming from the stalk. Or you could even check if the extra wire from the stalk is already in the loom, then you'd just need a new stalk and fuse box.

Relay option by far. Would get all the stuff for under £20.

Other option, would be £50-70. Maybe more

Oh, I would find a shorter route than right from the back Wink Spot on mate. Cheers. Smile

k think ill go for the first option haha so where would you say the best place to tap into the rear would be ?? could i just find the wires going to the rear fogs and follow them back towards the front??

#25: Re: front fogs help !!! Author: Lee, Location: England PostPosted: Sat Jun 04, 2011 9:18 am

Wires go from left hand side of boot up thru headlining or down under carpet.

#26: Re: front fogs help !!! Author: rudymason, Location: wales PostPosted: Sat Jun 04, 2011 9:19 am
    ----
so basically follow the wires from the fogs and relay them into the ones from the rear fogs, what's the difference to adding the main beams??

#27: Re: front fogs help !!! Author: Lee, Location: England PostPosted: Sat Jun 04, 2011 9:21 am
    ----
When you turn on your main beams, the fogs will come on as well.

Yeah just follow the wires and tap into them.

Can buy a 7m reel of 8amp cable from halfords for about £4

#28: Re: front fogs help !!! Author: rudymason, Location: wales PostPosted: Sat Jun 04, 2011 9:22 am
    ----
k brilliant thanks a lot for all your help Smile so guess on tha basis you may aswell just turn the fogs on and then turn the main beams on aswell if you need both :S am i right in saying that ??

#29: Re: front fogs help !!! Author: Lee, Location: England PostPosted: Sat Jun 04, 2011 9:25 am

People normally wire them into the dipped beam for that extra bit of light down those country lanes at night.

And also for the 'coolness'

#30: Re: front fogs help !!! Author: rudymason, Location: wales PostPosted: Sat Jun 04, 2011 9:27 am
    ----
so then the rear fog would be left alone and i guess yeah it would look cool haha and i imagine with the wires already exposed its a lot easier to wire them in as all the wiring is there in front of you!

#31: Re: front fogs help !!! Author: Lee, Location: England PostPosted: Sat Jun 04, 2011 9:28 am
    ----
They will come on when you turn your rear fog on. And also the fronts will come on when you flash your main beam.

Lee wrote:

right so if i get it right this is how it goes.....
as you said it would come on with if i flash the main mean as the dipped's would be on im guessing?? but how would they come on if theyre only wired into the dipped beams??

#33: Re: front fogs help !!! Author: Lee, Location: England PostPosted: Sat Jun 04, 2011 9:34 am
    ----
You wire them into main beam, not dipped beam

#34: Re: front fogs help !!! Author: rudymason, Location: wales PostPosted: Sat Jun 04, 2011 9:36 am
    ----
ah right kool all understood so when theyre wired into the main theyd only come on if you put the mains on or if you flash them , and that would then be just the 1 relay but if you want it on with the rear fogs aswell how would you do that(how would the wires fit into all those holes in the relays???

#35: Re: front fogs help !!! Author: Lee, Location: England PostPosted: Sat Jun 04, 2011 9:39 am
    ----
You need two relays, like i said on the first page

#36: Re: front fogs help !!! Author: rudymason, Location: wales PostPosted: Sat Jun 04, 2011 9:42 am
    ----
yeah i understand that but i dont understand the bit where if the 2 wires from each fog go into two of the holes in the relay for the main beams how would you then connect wires from the fogs to the rear fogs using a relay if the wires from the fogs are already being used in the relay for the main beams??
haha sorry i know its confusing but it just sems like there's not enough wires haha!! obviously i know you know what your talking about i just cant my head around it lol!!

Won't be now, cba and watching the football.

And shops are normally closed on a sunday, so if you don't have the wire, crimps, relays, you aren't going to do it tomorrow

i assume your car is multiplexed?

if so, the best way (in my opinion) has already been mentioned - if you don't have the engine bay fuse for front fogs (F6?), then get a box from a scrapped plexed 206 with front fogs, plug in the fogs to the tied up plugs i assume you have, and get someone with PP2000 to activate front fogs - you get to keep your existing com2000 this way too.

it keeps it OEM, clean and tidy.

i originally had them wired into their own circuit with a fog switch from a 205gti in the dash and it looked crap.

cool thanks for the help! so do most garages have this pp2000? if so i guess the fuse box job is just a straight swap and reconnect as necessary ?? plus yeah it does sound a lot neater and cleaner to do !

a pug/citroen dealer/specialist would have it and it takes minutes to do, so you'll be charged an hours labour at most.
i have the cable to do it but when i retrofitted the fogs had to pay a guy to activate them for me. maybe there's someone on the forum near you with PP2000?

yes the fuse box is easy to swap, once you've shut down the BSI and disconnected battery, it's a straight swap over.
go out and check you definitely don't have the fuse first though, it could make it a lot easier for you should it already be there.

so its the f6 fuse ill go check in a minute n let you know !! if its already there will i still need them to be activated or will it just need to be put in its correct place :S sounds to me like im talking s**te lol!!

#48: Re: front fogs help !!! Author: skard, Location: UK - North PostPosted: Mon Jun 06, 2011 7:03 am

if you have the fuse (or at least a slot where you can insert a fuse) then you will only have to physically plug the looms into the fog units, and still get it activated through the BSI by computer.

awesome thanks for our help , checked today the gaps there but the ability to insert not so good !! so new fuse box and garage here i come Smile
