#1: Best place to get ITB's Author: furryhobnob, Location: Nuneaton PostPosted: Thu Jun 09, 2011 4:37 pm

Hi guys now I've nearly finished with the exterior of the car, next in the list is lowering and engine work, I don't think I want to go down the turbo route and other that cams, throttle bodies sound great and give good gains, my car is a gti 138, can anyone recommend the best place to get them done with a remap aswell, and roughly what price I'll be looking at, thanks in advance guys and gals

Ecosse would want this much: www.ecosse-peugeot.co....sp?id=1068

I dunno if Pug1off would do it cheaper, give them an e-mail Smile

Is that price fitted do you know? And yeah I will either call them or drip them an email, was just seeing if anyone had had them done could recommend a place and a rough price guide, cheers for the link though

Surely you'd be better to get a 180 than pay that for a throttle body conversion? Surprised

2K? WOW, that's a LOT of money!!!

I guess I just no longer understand the tuning game, being an oldie (nearly 40 years old!) I would rather just buy a Subaru Impreza WRX Sti and mildly mod it.

I see your point but I'd rather have something that somebody expects to be slow and mildly surprised when it's not, and scooby's are clitoris cars, every c.u.n.t has one lol

I pardon you Wink I completely understand the "sleeper" concept Smile It's why my car is de-badged Wink

There are many standard cars out there that look like boring slow cars but will do 0-60 in less than 6 seconds!!!

180's are not easy to tune, the 138 is easier, I drove a 180 sTandard and wasn't too impressed, and also throttlebodies sound immense

...and cost far more to insure than a standard 180 I think...

(Unless you're committing Insurance Fraud and in the event of an accident, you're highly likely to be "found out" and then you're up to your neck in Debt for the rest of your life. Probably more than 6 University Degrees.)

You mean ITB's will cost more to insure on a 138 than a standard 180? Insurance isn't an issue, I'm 27 with 8 years no claims, money isn't an issue mate Wink

Yes they will, trust me! I have done the modifying route before (when I was much younger.)

If money isn't an issue then I wish you good luck mate! Go for it!

These days, money is an issue for most of us though! (Including myself, and I'm an old man at nearly 40!)

In fact, if money isn't an issue, why not fully "sleeper" your car and go the Supercharger route?

I earn about 38k a year so money isn't a massive issue, the only thing stopping me going all out is the fact I'm getting married in literally a year and I'm saving £200 a week for that, and regarding insurance I'd never not declare any work done, not worth the risk

£38,000 per annum doesn't mean you earn a lot!

In fact, it's rather humdrum! Money should be an issue for you. I rest my case......

edit: but if you'd rather carry-on spending your spare money on irrelevant things, my advice to you would be to try and get a job in the City worth £250,000 per year. Time passes by quickly. I'm only trying to help. If you're getting married, maybe kids will be on their way? They're REALLY expensive!

Between me and missus we bring home around 64k a year, our mortgage isn't much so money isn't an issue, if we want to go on holiday we go, if she wants anything we get it, I know there's lots of people out there earning more but my aim in life was to be comfortable and not have to worry, and that's exactly where I'm at, when I said money isn't an issue I didn't mean I can go buy a Ferrari lol I meant that a few grand is not something I'll lose sleep over spending it on the car or have to get a loan out etc

A few grand is alot of money to me aswell, you've missed my point, my point being if I want something I generally go for something I know I can comfortably afford, take the garage for example, it was sitting there as I don't put the car in there, so I spent a few grand doing it up into a cinema room with 120 inch screen so we can spend family time in there to watch films, it was the best few grand I've ever spent

TB on your GTI should be too bad mate. Just watch what ecu they use on your car tho. Big brands like DTA etc will give you bigger gains than homemade things, I think the Ecosse price is good. Not sure what ecu it is tho. I easily spent that on parts alone when I did my 180

I have a good bit of Engineering background and I know about the micron my friend Wink All I'm saying is you really earn your money and fair play to you - you deserve a bit of a treat from time to time, given your responsibility.

I like the sound of throttle bodies as well, the whine of a supercharger is an acquired taste!

But the dump valve on a big turbocharger is another thing entirely? I remember seeing the British Rally Championship in Clumber Park in 1990ish and when these monsters went past, the sonic boom shook me to the bone!

TURBOCHARGE IT! Very Happy :D Very Happy

As for the comments on using Ecosse for fitting throttle bodies, my advice is look at my project topic.

They did a very amateurish job with the wiring, using cheap components that should go nowhere near a car. They cut original 10 year old wiring from original sensors and attached it to new sensors. This made no sense at all when the Omex comes with its own loom that can go direct to all engine sensors.

They also don't fit air temperature sensors when every single other TB kit or company that fits TB's supply and fit these sensors. ECU controlled fuel injection isn't about approximate fuelling, it's about giving the engine exactly what it needs.

Their corner cutting also resulted in the Omex ECU being attached to the -ve wiring for the injectors (and all other sensors) but the original ECU and wiring controlling the +ve. This combination of two electrical systems creates lot of unreliability and it took 4 months to work out why the car was constantly cutting out. I had to fix this at further expense to myself. Ecosse did supply a new Omex loom and a new coolant sensor - an admission of fault? End result. I had to buy another car!

There is evidence of a suck it and see approach being used for the wiring too. Wires were soldered into the original loom and then when realised it was wrong they just cut the wire off but left 2 inches behind. Soldering was just covered by insulation tape as well. Did these mistakes cause the problem causing the original ECU to cut out every now and again.

Oh and I asked for a quote for the work. When I got the car back the price had increased by £300. They charged £200 for piston pocketing when both Longmans and High Flow Heads both wanted just £100. They they suspiciously knocked £100 off the piston machining price as a goodwill for taking so long (over 4 weeks) to do the car. Why would they specifically knock the price off the piston machining? Answer: because it never cost £200 in the first place.

Apparently Matt from Ecosse missed a works night out to work on my car. That shows how committed they are to deliver the goods. Sounds quite unprofessional too.

In short in my opinion Ecosse is very much run with an eye on the £'s. Something has to pay for that big workshop. Their average customer is fairly young and probably doesn't know a great deal about the work being done. This gives Ecosse an opportunity to cut corners and therefore save money increasing thier profits.

I didn't TB a s***ty 206. I did it to one of the very best examples!

I got a good family car too! Since when has a small Citroen or Megane been a family car? They are just hot hatches which will one day be described as s***ty too!

Thanks Kersh and macj for offering to help me.

The problem is shipping from UK to SA is so expensive that it doesn't make it worth it unless one gets the ITBs at a ridiculous low price. The other problem is that no one in SA would be able to fit it. They can't even install and run Catcams on a 180 Sad

Shipping will be a relatively small cost of the overall spend. I wouldn't worry about it. Fitting them isn't actually hard at all. Although how a multiplexed car would deal with half it's parts missing I don't know. It can be done though because Longmans did it lots.

Fit them yourself.... I can provide a "how to" guide and the ECU would come with a PC disc with the mapping programme on, again this comes with a "how to" guide. Given that you would be fitting it to a 206 I can probably programme a good base map that should run the engine fairly well with only a bit of fine tuning needed
