#1: Peugeot Diagnostics Author: Keisha206, Location: MiddlesbroughPosted: Fri Jun 10, 2011 1:54 am ---- Hi,
Can anyone reccomend a reliable garage with a 206 Diagnostics kit in Teesside?
Bought my silver 54 reg independence at 49,000 miles (pretty sure it was clocked) last january from a local 'reputable' garage and its been riddled with problems. Had the coil pack replaced, new lambda sensor. Took the car to a garage reccomended to me (didnt know he was a porsche specialist before he charged me £45 an hour!!!).
He took my car to bits and discovered the air bag light and the engine management light had been covered with black mastic and duct tape. Airbag light was fixed right then but the engine management light was intermittent and went off! He ran the diagnostics tool anyway and that suggested it was the Catylic Converter...its just come back on (after a few weeks off) and ive finally got the money to get it sorted... want to double check it is the cat first (and not have to pay £45 an hour!!) any reccomendations welcome!
Cheers!

#6: Re: Peugeot Diagnostics Author: leigh_boy, Location: EastbournePosted: Fri Jun 10, 2011 2:44 am ---- ye pug charge £50 ish per half an hour
#7: Re: Peugeot Diagnostics Author: Keisha206, Location: MiddlesbroughPosted: Fri Jun 10, 2011 5:53 am ---- ok !! didnt know, thought this was expensive ... i was told it was!!
#8: Re: Peugeot Diagnostics Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Fri Jun 10, 2011 6:26 am ---- Could you not just get the codes read and see what comes up. There are quite a few code readers out there for less than you're paying per hour. Granted, they won't reset the ABS light but will do the same job as most garages.

Not really when you consider Renault charge £127 to change a headlight bulb.
£45 an hour is cheap for a "specialist".
Contact "Lee" on here, he is a good guy with all the correct software and is a damned sight cheaper than a garage
#14: Re: Peugeot Diagnostics Author: Keisha206, Location: MiddlesbroughPosted: Tue Jun 14, 2011 3:00 am ---- Right there with you MissGTI!
FYI MrBSI i got it looked at at a local garage, bloke put it on the diagnostics for nothing (cause i get my MOT done there) apparently i have an ageing Catylist and a sensor on Cylinder one has gone, he's turned the engine management light off for me too.
So with the money i saved decided to start getting rid of the bumps and scratches on the car starting with the door sill where it looks like the previous owner has been digging her heels in! gotta buy some primer, got the paint match and clear lacquer - hope it works!!
#15: Re: Peugeot Diagnostics Author: Seb, Location: Under your bedPosted: Tue Jun 14, 2011 6:38 am ---- A sensor on cylinder 1 has gone?? I have no idea what that could be as there aren't sensors on each cylinder.. other than the spark plugs and injectors?
#16: Re: Peugeot Diagnostics Author: Keisha206, Location: MiddlesbroughPosted: Tue Jun 14, 2011 6:49 am ---- i apologise, i said it's gone, the report just said "Cylinder 1 sensor" i have no idea what that means, apart from nothing to me!... knowing my luck it will be spark plugs!
Any idea how much a new Cat is to replace? i've been looking around and seem to be able to pick up one second hand for about £30 but is that going to leave me with the same problem?
#17: Re: Peugeot Diagnostics Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Tue Jun 14, 2011 8:43 am ---- Ageing CAT - Just take it down some lanes and give the car some boot..
Make sure you are running Bosch spark plugs
Didn't he give you any fault codes?
How did he fix the airbag? [was the light flashing or solid?]
#18: Re: Peugeot Diagnostics Author: Keisha206, Location: MiddlesbroughPosted: Tue Jun 14, 2011 9:03 am ---- I believe the spark plugs are BOSCH - could be wrong, ill take a look when i get home tonight!,
I didnt get any fault codes it was a last minute thing that i turned up, he put the computer on it and he give me that info didnt ask for any money or anything because the garage was closing for the night! - he said its not anything to worry about and turned off the light for me.
With the airbag it was a solid light i believe (i wouldnt know if it was flashing as when i took my car to the garage he took my dash apart and both that and the engine management light had been covered with black mastic! But it was something to do with the com2000, he replaced the bit with the indicators attached (pardon my non technical jargon) and put the steering wheel back on and the airbag light went off.
got no lights atm! fairly pleased, but expecting to have to replace the cat - which my uncle can replace as he works for tyres and exhausts place - not sure on a price for the part though?
#19: Re: Peugeot Diagnostics Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Tue Jun 14, 2011 9:10 am ---- Least you didn't get charged.
Sound about right for the airbag as multiplexed models due suffer from tempremental COM2000's which in turn causes a airbag fault.
Like I said, just try giving the car a bit of hammer to clear the CAT out, generally does sort it out. You normally get a 'aging cat' thru a lot of short and stop-start journeys.
But you uncle should obviously get them at trade price.
#20: Re: Peugeot Diagnostics Author: Keisha206, Location: MiddlesbroughPosted: Tue Jun 14, 2011 9:15 am ---- had nothing but trouble with the car... so glad its getting to a stage where i can just start modding it to look better! i'm in love with my car!.
I do a lot of start/stop journeys especially with the price of petrol lately (im a student!) so think i'll give it a good thrashing !!
I shall start saving for the CAT then! haha...
Thanks for your help!
#21: Re: Peugeot Diagnostics Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Tue Jun 14, 2011 9:21 am ---- Yeah just do that, or do a reasonable journey on a motorway or something.
