#1: Thumping/knocking/banging from front Author: Evangelion, Location: West CountryPosted: Fri Jun 10, 2011 7:10 am ---- My 206 Gti 138 has a strange knocking sound from the front; it happens when you pull away, or raise the clutch after a gearchange, also when driving over bumps, as the engine tilts back something is hitting something.
The shock absorber top nuts, droplinks and anti-roll bar bushes have all been checked and found to be fine. Also a gearbox mounting which was found to be oval has been replaced, but to no avail.
Any ideas?

#4: Re: Thumping/knocking/banging from front Author: Evangelion, Location: West CountryPosted: Mon Jun 13, 2011 8:20 am ---- Top engine mount is ok i'm told. Have asked him to replace the lower bushes on the RHS as it sounds like it's coming from that side and see how we go from there.
(Every time someone looks at this car it costs me a fortune. Why oh why didn't I take everyone else's advice and buy a Golf Gti instead?)

Because that would be the sensible boring option and needs far too much common sense
#7: Re: Thumping/knocking/banging from front Author: Evangelion, Location: West CountryPosted: Thu Jun 16, 2011 2:46 am ---- Front lower arm bushes (RHS) being replaced as we speak, will see if that cures it.
#8: Re: Thumping/knocking/banging from front Author: Evangelion, Location: West CountryPosted: Thu Jun 23, 2011 2:57 am ---- Got the car back at last! After replacing the RHS lower arm the noise got less but didn't go away, so the LHS one was replaced which cured it completely. As he had to remove the drop linkls to get at them, he replaced those too.
Drop links £15 a side, arms £70 a side, plus labour.
And it's still got no grip on the front. FWD sucks, think I'll part-ex it for a 3-series.
