Hey, when driving my car as soon as I touch the clutch pedal the car starts to squeal, plus there's alot of vibration/judder through the pedal...does this mean I need a new clutch??

Also when manoeuvring or moving slowly on the clutch there's a bad smell of burning

Best thing to do is take it to a garage they will be able to tell you quicker than any of us on here buddy and they know exactly what it is.

It's going to a garage in the morning just thought I'd ask as this is a problem section on a forum designed for people to come and get help and discuss their cars

well i have got a touch of judder on my 180, but i would be worried if it was starting to smell (like you say yours is) any signs of it slipping when you give it some right boot ?????.
squeal maybe the thrust (slave) bearing on the way out if this is the case then you are just aswell changing the whole lot while you got it apart

The squeal is the other way on to a thrust bearing, like the noise isn't there when I don't touch the pedal and is when I press it, it's a really high.pitch squeal

clutch release baring.... mine went the other day, you can feeel a lot of judder through your left foot when rested on it, and if you push you foot on the clutch you can hear it go away, its a mega common problem though just not the cheapest to fix, may as well replace the whole clutch rather than bairing while your down there for the sake of an extra few quid

p.s must be a Cam thing Very Happy

Edit: i will still put money on the release bairing, everything else sounds as your saying with mine, and mine did sound less to start with then eventuly it got better when u press it in and squeeled when off

seems its the month of Gti 180 clutches, mines finally just gave up.

I started off with the release bearing making a lot of noise and vibrating when touching the pedal, managed 2 weeks of driving, avoiding pulling away as much as possible, then it finally went and now wont go into gear, so got to tow it and fit the new clutch this weekend, on the plus side I havent had to put any fuel in the thing for nearly a week Smile
