Boot wont lock!!!! Please help...

#1: Boot wont lock!!!! Please help... Author: gemgem87, Location: West Mids PostPosted: Mon Jun 20, 2011 9:46 am

Hi Guys, I'm new to this but was really hoping someone would be able to help me.

Basically I have a Y reg 206, 3 door and I have realised today that when I use my fob to lock my doors via the centra locking - the boot does not lock!!
I always carry stuff in my boot as I am back and forth from home to my bfs so I really cant have my boot open and the possibility of my things getting stolen! Therefore I need to try and sort this ASAP, however - I cant think what I would need to do to rectify the problem.

I cant see any noticable reason for the boot not locking so I'm guessing it is something internal?? The two front doors lock no problem at all, but even with the boot - I cant hear a click so it doesnt even sound like its attempting to lock it. As there is no key hole for the boot, I cant lock it manually!

Anyone had any similar problems or know more about Central locking, i would be soooo appreciative.

Thanks Guys
Gem xxx

To lock it manually.

Open the tailgate

Pull the plastic trim panel off ( grab it at the top & pull HARD )

Operate the central locking motor manual to slide the lock rod.

Now shut the boot & it will be locked.

To open it again, fold the seat down & just pull the lock rod from inside the tailgate.

As for the lock fault:

Could be the central locking motor
Could be a broken wire
Could be a lack of lubrication

have you checked that the catch part on the car (not the actual catch on the tailgate) has not moved as this is a common problem.

just lift it up and re-tighten the two bolts holding it on

I have a similar problem at the moment. Solenoid (motor) buzzes but will not lock the boot.
When I checked I found that the motor had failed. Got a replacement from the scrapyard and fitted it - motor was faulty on this one too although not as far gone. I'm taking it back for a refund tonight.
I suspect that the crappy nylon gears inside the motor assembly have worn judging by the noise it makes.

Got a working part tonight, (off a 2006 car), and fitted it - works fine now.
In my case it was the motor - but Mr BSI's other comments could have been equally valid too.
