#2: Re: tail/side light problems Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Tue Jun 21, 2011 3:24 pm ---- You checked if there is power going to the lights?
Any electrical mods?
#3: Re: tail/side light problems Author: DREWDEN, Location: huddersfieldPosted: Tue Jun 21, 2011 5:17 pm ---- No modifications at all to the electrics. when i first had problems with the o/s tail/side lights I did take the car to a garage i have used before (decent guy) He got the lights back on by running some sort of tester and lead from front to back. a week later a family friend did a diagnostic test on the car for my own curiousity more than anything, to see if there were any other probiems. bad mistake on my part. the light fault came back and got worse hence both sides what do you sugest lee
#4: Re: tail/side light problems Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Wed Jun 22, 2011 7:53 am ---- Do you have a multimeter to test the wiring?
So does all the lights work except the sidelights?
Wiring diagram attached

#6: Re: tail/side light problems Author: DREWDEN, Location: huddersfieldPosted: Wed Jun 22, 2011 11:40 am ---- Afraid not (no multimeter) forgot to mention earlier number plate lights out as well. all other lights on the car are A1 OK. Have a HAYNES MANUAL and already checked their wiring diagrams.. will look at yours as well much appreciated. would your diagnostics equipment be my next port of call or would a test with a multimeter be appropiate first.
#7: Re: tail/side light problems Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Wed Jun 22, 2011 12:26 pm ---- You could test it via a multimeter if you have one.
Does the side lights on the front work?
I could come and try and diagnose it, and if it is a wiring fault, potentially rewire it for you.
#8: Re: tail/side light problems Author: DREWDEN, Location: huddersfieldPosted: Wed Jun 22, 2011 2:22 pm ---- Hi LEE
Don't have a multimeter, n/s side light/tail light working but not turning off, (on constantly ) bypassing stalk switch, also when key out of ignition.
o/s side light /tail/number plate lights not working at all.
It'll be great if you could solve the problem for me. where is sheffield 25 (what area of sheffield is that.) only been a lgv driver for 35 years '
could meet you half way, or something. when are you available, MOT run out last week oooooops
my mobile number is 07954413790
#9: Re: tail/side light problems Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Wed Jun 22, 2011 2:24 pm ---- Does the front side lights work?? If they do, you could just rewire the rear lights by piggy backing the front.
#10: Re: tail/side light problems Author: DREWDEN, Location: huddersfieldPosted: Wed Jun 22, 2011 5:29 pm ---- with the stalk light switgh in the off position n/s tail and side light stoppivg on
with the stalk light switch in the 1st position (side lights tail lights) n/s lights on o/s lights not coming on
no problems with headlights 2nd position
hope this has been explained more clearly
#11: Re: tail/side light problems Author: qwert, Location: ukPosted: Thu Jun 23, 2011 2:17 am ---- i think he means the lights on the outer edge on the front lights, not the headlights. When you put the side lights on, you should get a little light in each front light coming on.
#12: Re: tail/side light problems Author: DREWDEN, Location: huddersfieldPosted: Thu Jun 23, 2011 6:12 am ---- Sorry to confuse? in my third statement. afraid not (no multimeter} was just stating i dont have a multimeter.
headlights working fine.
#13: Re: tail/side light problems Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Thu Jun 23, 2011 11:00 am ---- Front sidelights not headlights
Need to find out if the whole side light circuit is faulty or just the rear
#14: Re: tail/side light problems Author: DREWDEN, Location: huddersfieldPosted: Thu Jun 23, 2011 11:48 am ---- Thanks for that LEE.
Not my thing electrics, only know the basics fuses, bad earths etc
I will go and get car tested with a multmeter and let you know
You know when you do a reboot of the bsi, and you let the bsi go into safe mode
is it the the same safe mode that comes on that protects the battery from going flat
And when it says to turn off all apliances. with the problem i've got lights on all the time do i take the bulbs out when doing reboot
#15: Re: tail/side light problems Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Thu Jun 23, 2011 11:51 am ---- Just turn the sidelights on and have a look at the front of the car
#16: Re: tail/side light problems Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Mon Jun 27, 2011 2:08 pm ---- Did you sort this?
#17: Re: tail/side light problems Author: DREWDEN, Location: huddersfieldPosted: Mon Jun 27, 2011 3:31 pm ---- Taking car for MOT tomorrow, letting guy who got them workining last time (decent bloke) sort it out. didn't charge a penny.
Let you know what the problem was.
CHEERS
#18: Re: tail/side light problems Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Mon Jun 27, 2011 4:01 pm ---- Do the front ones work tho?
#19: Re: tail/side light problems Author: DREWDEN, Location: huddersfieldPosted: Mon Jun 27, 2011 4:22 pm ---- Just one side, won't go off with stalk switch in off position having to take bulb out all the time. back tail light same side the same.
other side dont even work.
What you thinking? Let you have a look first, i dont mind if thats the best way to go about it'
#20: Re: tail/side light problems Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Mon Jun 27, 2011 4:26 pm ---- Seems really weird as the wiring goes COM2000 > BSI > Each light individually. They don't share wires. So it could be a faulty or bug in the BSI, and possibly need updating.
#21: Re: tail/side light problems Author: DREWDEN, Location: huddersfieldPosted: Mon Jun 27, 2011 5:27 pm ---- -One side went origanly, bsi reboot got them working again.(o/s)
-Week later had to disconect battery for something and couldn't get them working(o/s)
-bloke at garage got them working by some sort of gadget and long wire (o/s)
-then a friend did a adiagnostics for me to see what other faults i had lurking with the car, this made the lights not work again(o/s)
-well a day later the opposite side, were on permantly(n/s) and still on to date. Oh and the number plate lights not working.
All the above pertain to side and tail lights.
Not had any probs with headlights whatsoever.
DO YOU THINK THIS FRIEND OF A FRIEND Make the situation get worse with his diagnostics. seemed a bit amateurish
best if i put MOT off and let you have a look. appreciate it if thats possible like i stated previously meet you half way.
#22: Re: tail/side light problems Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Tue Jun 28, 2011 4:08 am ---- Sounds like there is problems within the BSI. Sounds like the software is buggy if you have never had it updated. Sounds like it needs a BSI update.
#23: Re: tail/side light problems Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Sat Jul 09, 2011 4:11 am ---- I reckon its gonna end up with either:
