if bought second hand. I know they have to be re programmed but
do i have to get the precise Siemens part no that is on the unit. any help
would be appreciated

Something to do with a security code in the ECU for the BSI to communicate with. It cant be changed, and the ECU and BSI have to have the same code.

You cant reprogram the old one either.
The only things you can do is:
Update the software version
Reconfigure the BSI setup
Recode keys
The VIN number & mileage are extremly difficult to alter / tamper with.
A brand spanking new BSI from Peugeot is cheap enough anyway.

You can virginise a BSI, but its just too expensive because you need to change some of the eeproms and then recode it all, its cheaper to buy a new one and recode it.
If you get a second hand BSI, and remove the coding for the immo it will work.

There must be over a hundred second hand units on EBay for sale. Why would anybody buy these units if they cannot be recoded. I checked with BBA this morning and they can rebuild faulty units and give a 2 year warranty for approx £100 but I didnt ask them
how quick they could do it.

ECU, BSI Unit and transponder or to simplify whats the best cost effective
way to get my locking system working again

It could easily be a broken wire or bust relay. My battery spazzed out my electrics and bust my electric windows, I need to get my car running right first but the BSI is not the first place I will be looking as it is the most expensive.
