Have a feeling i may know the answer to this, but, is it possible to tell the mileage of a set of clocks without plugging them into your car (and knackering up your own mileage) ??
(also, no there's no books or nothing, picked them up cheap from the scrappy)
Reason: my speedo is fudged.

Is your car plexed or not?

pre plexed dials, the mileage is stored in the dials, plexed, the mileage is stored on the ecu or bsi, dunno which lol.

No, multi plexed, 02. And the car i got it off was pretty much totalled so not much chance of pluggin it back in there. I dont much fancy the 'plug it in and hope for the best' method, even though i know they can be readjusted for a price.

I think, multi plexed dials will sync with your ecu and show your mileage after a few miles.

I thought that was only if the mileage of the new dials was less than that of your current dials? Otherwise the higher mileage shows up.

Nope, they have anti clocking built in.

Unless you 100% know the mileage is lower on a replacement multiplexed cluster then what your car is showing I wouldnt risk connecting them up.

Abzynthe - Thanks anyway.

MrBSI - Thats what i originally thought, which takes me back to the original question of is there a way to find out the mileage without connecting them up?

No idea, wonder what kind of test rig BBA use to test these clusters after they repair them Confused

Never thought about this but surely it only needs power for the display to show mileage? not sure how you'd do this

I need them under 57, which seems to be a pain to find cheap.
Also, ive had a garage jam some power through them but only got dashes instead of the mileage, so if anyone has any ideas im open to anything. Yes i know itd be easier to just bite the bullet and shell out for some others if i see them, but it bugs me that it shouldnt be this complex to read the mileage from a set of dials where all they should need is a little power!

are you worried about selling the car with higher milage than its got?

if so take some pics, of your original dials fitted, the new dials, both together and then the new dials fitted.... this should be enough evidence about what milage the car has done.

id try them on mine but ive got 148k currently lol
