#1: Rear Suspension ROCK hard! Author: panzer360gti, Location: UKPosted: Sun Jul 03, 2011 12:43 pm ---- Hi everyone, total noob, just bought a 206 GTI and I am doing it up, but it failed MOT, most of which I have sorted, apart from the handbrake doesnt fully engage, as I put new discs and pads in, they told me to sand the pads down which I did but didnt make too much difference I think?
I noticed when putting the new pads in that I have to turn the cylinder in to get them in, do you think bringing this out a bit will help?
Also, not part of the MOT, but they stated that my rear suspension has no play in it at all, I think the last owner may have stiffened it?
Will new shocks fix this??
Thanks for any help!

#3: Re: Rear Suspension ROCK hard! Author: panzer360gti, Location: UKPosted: Sun Jul 03, 2011 1:01 pm ---- So changing the rear shocks will make it "springy"?
#4: Re: Rear Suspension ROCK hard! Author: Andy180, Location: Stoke on TrentPosted: Sun Jul 03, 2011 1:40 pm ---- even uprated shocks should have movement in them, its either the shocks are knackered all together or possibly your rear beam is shagged.
#5: Re: Rear Suspension ROCK hard! Author: panzer360gti, Location: UKPosted: Sun Jul 03, 2011 1:42 pm ---- there is some movement, just tried it, its just very limited.
#6: Re: Rear Suspension ROCK hard! Author: Andy180, Location: Stoke on TrentPosted: Sun Jul 03, 2011 2:01 pm ---- shocks are more than likley knackered did you notice if they had been leaking ?
#7: Re: Rear Suspension ROCK hard! Author: Teebag, Location: exhall, bedworth, coventryPosted: Sun Jul 03, 2011 2:01 pm ---- change the shocks. sounds like they've had it
#8: Re: Rear Suspension ROCK hard! Author: panzer360gti, Location: UKPosted: Sun Jul 03, 2011 2:44 pm ---- they look old and shagged, just that the guy at the garage started going on about torsion bars and it being a massive job, but tbh, the garage are well known for talking rubbish
Any help with the handbrake thing?
#9: Re: Rear Suspension ROCK hard! Author: Harry, Location: StaffordPosted: Sun Jul 03, 2011 2:47 pm ---- Because of the stiffness? They know f*** all if they think that's the torsions bars..
I have spax shocks and they seem rock solid but they aren't actually. Just change the shocks you can get second hand oem ones for a tenner off ebay.
#10: Re: Rear Suspension ROCK hard! Author: Teebag, Location: exhall, bedworth, coventryPosted: Sun Jul 03, 2011 2:49 pm ---- cable tension good with the handbrake? its a bolt under the centre console.
#11: Re: Rear Suspension ROCK hard! Author: Andy180, Location: Stoke on TrentPosted: Sun Jul 03, 2011 2:50 pm ---- could well be seized torsion bars i wouldnt rule it out happend to me on my old 309 thatt would be the worst case scenario though, when you say the handbrake doesnt fully engage what do you mean ?

Why would seized bars make it stiffer..?
#13: Re: Rear Suspension ROCK hard! Author: Steve206, Location: UKPosted: Sun Jul 03, 2011 3:04 pm ---- Has it been lowered? Might explain.

Im going to pump the brakes this afternoon, should cure it, maybe a bit of cable adjusting.
#17: Re: Rear Suspension ROCK hard! Author: Seabook, Posted: Mon Jul 04, 2011 3:04 am ---- please don't tell me the gti is as low as addaz's 206
#18: Re: Rear Suspension ROCK hard! Author: panzer360gti, Location: UKPosted: Mon Jul 04, 2011 4:35 am ---- it aint lowered!
#19: Re: Rear Suspension ROCK hard! Author: Seabook, Posted: Mon Jul 04, 2011 5:57 am ---- need pics.
if the damper is at fault the car would be lower than usual.
seized torsion bar or trailing arm won't make you feel harder.
are they stock dampers? stock torsion bar?
