Uneven rear tyre wear = new axle needed?

I know this topic has been covered lots and I used the search function to have a look through the previous posts, but I wanted to just get some fresh answers regarding my car.

I bought a 2.0 HDI D Turbo 02' plate car with 117k on the clock, it went through its MOT with an advisory for front tyres and a rear wheel bearing, both of which I've done..

However, the NSF rear tyre has suddenly started to wear quite heavily on the inside, the OSF has worn too, but not half as bad, the car has now done 123k, so only 5k since the MOT, which didnt pick up on any play in the rear axle bushes.

The car handles fine and apart from the rattling boot, there arent any noises coming from the back and I do my tyre pressues every week, so I wondered whether this sounds like the start of the rear axle problem?

Thanks

jack up the rear and shake the arm. if there is any play then the axle most likely has been damaged.

i will not rely on mot to pick up any potential problem of my car.

Don't know if they're the same but trailing arm bearings being worn can cause adverse camber on the rear wheels on both the 106 and 306 which use torsion bar rear suspension. If they're knackered its as easy to change the beam but you should be able to see the camber on the wheel.

Does it have standard wheels?

Cheers for the replies guys, I'm gonna jack it up tomorrow and have a look!

No it doesnt have standard wheels, its got 17" alloys - do you think that might be causing it?
