#1: Engine ticking, Author: Abzynthe, Posted: Tue Jul 05, 2011 10:16 am ---- Hi Guys,
My engine has a constant ticking coming from the rocker. One of my mates has said that its the things that the cams push down are a bit warn?
Would that sound about right?
If so, is it an expensive job? I want to get my car back to sounding sweet, and hopefully get the power back it came with.
All I need to do is give it a service and sort this ticking, and it should be right as rain
Any help would be much appreciated.

but just to make sure you oil is good and is enough Last edited by Seabook on Tue Jul 05, 2011 10:27 am; edited 1 time in total

My oil is about half on the dipstick, so it does need a bit more, but that'll get done with the service.
If the service doesnt help that much, does the valve lifter go in with the oil?

#8: Re: Engine ticking, Author: Howey, Location: Kings LynnPosted: Tue Jul 05, 2011 10:50 am ---- Valve lifter concentrate just gets added in with the oil

#10: Re: Engine ticking, Author: Howey, Location: Kings LynnPosted: Tue Jul 05, 2011 11:18 am ---- Sorry Seabook, What does that list of ingredients mean?
Sorry Seabook, What does that list of ingredients mean?
2-(2-butoxyethoxy)ethanol; diethylene glycol monobutyl ether, 4-methyl-2-pentanol and cyclohexanone use to take away water from the fuel and engine oil. quite a common component in most fuel additives.
Distillates (petroleum), hydrotreated heavy naphthenic; Baseoil
is just basic stock mineral oil.
Zink alkyl dithiofosfaat is ZDDP, used to have about 5% to 10% in the engine oil before cat. was introduced; it is used as an anti wear agent. apparently it is toxic to the cat. so modern engine oil have <2% of that present. apparant they replace that with other thing but not as effective?
most competition oil will have at least 5% of that present anyway.

So your saying dont use it as everything I need is in the oil?
#14: Re: Engine ticking, Author: Seabook, Posted: Tue Jul 05, 2011 11:31 am ---- i never used any oil additive or fuel additive.
however, many people like to add redex or what so ever in their oil or petrol frequently, you just can't ignore the placebo effect.
#15: Re: Engine ticking, Author: Abzynthe, Posted: Tue Jul 05, 2011 11:33 am ---- This is the first car where Ive had to worry about things and i havent got a clue!
I wont be putting any additives in at least until the service is done.
I know you said the valve lifters can be expensive, but dont suppose you know a rough figure?
