I pulled it out when I was hammering my wishbone as it was stuck on the hub side and I wanted it off.
Also whats the best method to clean off gearbox oil from block paving :s I put brake cleaner on it then loads of washing powder

Sawdust to soak up the majority then brake cleaner and paper towel/newspaper.

I thought they may be for the shaft to lock into but the part that comes into contact them is smooth all the way around. Do those shafts have a clip to hold them in like some other cars? I tried looking for one on the floor but didn't see one.
oh and does it make a difference if the wishbone is on or off?
#4: Re: Urgent driveshaft help Author: Rob2859, Location: HalifaxPosted: Thu Jul 07, 2011 2:36 pm ---- I got it back in but it make a clunking noise when in gear like its not in properly but its pushed all the way in.

With mine (GTi 180) there was no clicking noise, just slid straight in.
Did you check the boots for cracks or holes? Have you tightened the hubnut to the correct torque?

Needs a good shove to get it past the seal
