#1: heat coming from pedal compartment - driver side Author: omricn, Location: israelPosted: Mon Jul 11, 2011 11:40 am ---- Hey everybody!
Lately I've noticed it's getting hot inside the car, especially heat coming from the pedals area, I remember once someone having a similar problem, (can't find the thread..) he said there was some metallic "thingy" that's really hot after a drive, it's located just below the right the knee (I'm driving a left hand car so i guess in a right hand car it will be the left knee). I tried to feel for it today and touched it and it was really hot, guess this is what produces the heat.
anyone?....

On a serious note; it could be a hot water pipe for the heater matrix. Not sure as its left hand drive it could be in a different place. Possibly this pipe is blocked and causing a heat build-up. Last edited by Rob2859 on Mon Jul 11, 2011 11:47 am; edited 1 time in total

#6: Re: heat coming from pedal compartment - driver side Author: omricn, Location: israelPosted: Mon Jul 11, 2011 12:01 pm ---- thanks for the replies.. I just didn't quite get what's so funny about my post.. maybe I didn't explain exactly where this "hot thingy" is located.. If i reach below the steering wheel and go all the way to the right side I'm touching it (again - right hand cars maybe different and possibly wont encounter this issue..
And by the way its like 35 degrees Celsius here these days.. that's about 95 in Fahrenheit..
#7: Re: heat coming from pedal compartment - driver side Author: macj, Location: EssexPosted: Mon Jul 11, 2011 1:03 pm ---- Is the "hot thingy" made from black plastic by any chance
Is the "hot thingy" made from black plastic by any chance
Actually I haven't gotten around to seeing it yet..

#10: Re: heat coming from pedal compartment - driver side Author: omricn, Location: israelPosted: Tue Jul 12, 2011 2:12 am ---- I took some photos of the thing, it looks like a plastic box that has a tube\pipe attached to it which is coming from the engine side, when looking at it from the side it's located right behind the a\c selectors part of the console.. can't upload the photos now as I'm at work and no wifi available, will upload asap.

Man this forum has gone from being one of the most helpful places to being more of a circus.. only one relevant reply, all the rest is so unnecessary crap.. glad you guys find the post so hilarious.. got no idea what's so funny .. grow up people..
#13: Re: heat coming from pedal compartment - driver side Author: Dillon, Location: KentPosted: Tue Jul 12, 2011 5:47 am ---- OK ok, breathing now...
That sounds like your heater matrix, and from the fact that the heat is unexpected, it is broken. Now I would suspect that one of the control rods has come loose/broken, these are attached to the knobs used to control the temperature.
It would amuse us, as being a more temperate country we would actually use the heating in our cars.
#14: Re: heat coming from pedal compartment - driver side Author: smiddies, Location: BrightonPosted: Tue Jul 12, 2011 5:52 am ---- Nah this is a decentforum, its good to have a laugh these days, especially with all the news papers these days going on about financial crisis, arround the world wars, terrorisms, worlds going to end!
Its a joke, laugh or STFU!
Seems normal tbh! You see that thing underneath your bonnet, its called an engine, it gets very hot, and heats up the surrounding areas, added to this the head units heat coming from centre consol, and your going to get heat soak in mostly plastic parts, thats to take majority of the heat away from the metal, so it doesnt heat up too much! its all normal,

So basically that means the I would notice something is broken if I turn the a\c knobs right? well they're all ok, nothing broken..

I really don't appreciate that kind of language, don't be a keyboard thug please..

Know that thing separating you from the engine? It's called a fire wall, and will never let heat from the engine bay get into the car. I would disagree that that situation is normal, something feels wrong about this hot plastic tube+box..
And thank you for the normal reply, finally
#17: Re: heat coming from pedal compartment - driver side Author: smiddies, Location: BrightonPosted: Tue Jul 12, 2011 8:52 am ---- Haha please a keyboard thug, its standard forum language, any forum you go on will allow it!
Why dont you put on a smile?
Even tho there's a fire wall, still some heat must come in either through other objects like wires, or be coming from the wires itself!
#18: Re: heat coming from pedal compartment - driver side Author: omricn, Location: israelPosted: Tue Jul 12, 2011 9:41 am ---- Yeh sorry for the seriousness.. was a bit of a crazy day for me at work and blew some steam off where I shouldn't have..
so smiles all around
and about my car - the hot plastic box with the tube attached.. I really tend to think it's not supposed to be that way.. will go to my mechanic as soon as i can.

It is safe to assume that there is something wrong with your heater box, On the right hand side of the black box there is some servo motors. One controls the heat/cold flap inside your heater box. If you have manual controls there is a wire similar to a throttle cable going to the same locations. You may need to push your seats right back to gain enough access. A mirror is also useful.
On the left of the heater box the is two black pipes..... these are always hot so dont bother with a mechanic if this is what you mean.
#20: Re: heat coming from pedal compartment - driver side Author: omricn, Location: israelPosted: Tue Jul 12, 2011 1:24 pm ---- Yeh thats exactly the pipes I was talking about! thanks for the clarification! now i know they need to be hot..
about the heater box - is that the box which is connected to these two pipes? because this plastic box is as hot as the pipes, also the flap which is used to swich from hot to cold air is working perfectly, and i get warm\cool air when turning the knob.
I'v added two pictures showing the hot pipe and box
first picture describes where the box is (located behind the console, approached from the side of the console where plastic part end).
second picture self explanatory.
#21: Re: heat coming from pedal compartment - driver side Author: Seabook, Posted: Tue Jul 12, 2011 1:48 pm ---- that suppose to be hot. that's the coolant pipe to the in-car heater.
#22: Re: heat coming from pedal compartment - driver side Author: omricn, Location: israelPosted: Tue Jul 12, 2011 1:56 pm ---- Allrighty then! good news
guess I'v started to notice it since it started to become hotter outside and am wearing short pants....
i guess this isn't much of an issue in right handed cars as yours, think i'll try to wrap it in some sort of an isolator or something..
Many thanks
#23: Re: heat coming from pedal compartment - driver side Author: macj, Location: EssexPosted: Tue Jul 12, 2011 3:05 pm ---- Glad we cleared that up
