#1: Thrust bearing.. Author: Scootymad, Location: NorfolkPosted: Mon Jul 11, 2011 3:58 pm ---- Will it wipe out the gearbox if it goes?
#2: Re: Thrust bearing.. Author: Seabook, Posted: Mon Jul 11, 2011 4:06 pm ---- it will
#3: Re: Thrust bearing.. Author: Scootymad, Location: NorfolkPosted: Mon Jul 11, 2011 4:08 pm ---- Right, that car isn't moving until it goes to the garage now.. and even then it will be towed.
I'd rather pay £350 for a clutch than nearer a grand for a clutch and gearbox -.-

Still.. you read the horror stories.. so it makes me think 'is it really worth the risk?'

Author: LeeThr, Location: North West WalesPosted: Mon Jul 11, 2011 4:29 pm ---- My gearbox is on the way out as well as the thurst bearing so If I have to replace one the other needs doing anyway. So untill it goes im just putting the millage on it, the gearbox has been whining for the past 20,000 miles haha.

Worst case it will push through the clutch cover and you will destroy the clutch
#8: Re: Thrust bearing.. Author: MrZiggerz, Location: Milton KeynesPosted: Mon Jul 11, 2011 4:43 pm ---- My thrust bearing has been gone for about 12 months. Im cool like that. Last edited by MrZiggerz on Mon Jul 11, 2011 4:43 pm; edited 1 time in total
#11: Re: Thrust bearing.. Author: imjeeves, Location: Glasgow / WellingPosted: Mon Jul 11, 2011 4:47 pm ---- Would need to go though it at some speed to bust the gearbox. I work on these boxes all the time. Never heard of that before.
Its a plastic bearing no big deal.
#12: Re: Thrust bearing.. Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Mon Jul 11, 2011 4:54 pm ---- I've had it happen on the motorway, thrust bearing let go at 4000 revs (due to a knackered link from cable to bearing), ball bearings and gearbox bell housing metal peppered the car behind and my bonnet had some lovely outward dents.
Yeah, they said on the phone 'between £300 and £360'
KrisB does them for £230 including clutch & fitted. Probably save you money to drive there, lol.
#15: Re: Thrust bearing.. Author: Seabook, Posted: Tue Jul 12, 2011 2:29 am ---- normal garage charge 4 hours for clutch so the price i say is reasonable.
but there is always cheaper choice on info here
#16: Re: Thrust bearing.. Author: Kersh, Location: Bridgnorth, Nr WolverhamptonPosted: Tue Jul 12, 2011 2:46 am ---- it would take some effort to blow through your bell housing and damage the gearbox.. generally they disintegrate slowly as opposed to in one big pop..
#17: Re: Thrust bearing.. Author: Big_Rich180, Posted: Tue Jul 12, 2011 2:50 am ---- Have a look at CD-530D's picture on this then decide if it needs doing now or later www.206info.co.uk/Foru...tml#398905
#18: Re: Thrust bearing.. Author: Scootymad, Location: NorfolkPosted: Tue Jul 12, 2011 10:58 am ---- Well.. its going in at the end of the week and I have a runaround for now!
#19: Re: Thrust bearing.. Author: Seabook, Posted: Tue Jul 12, 2011 11:01 am ---- it is funny that thrust bearing go before the clutch friction.
did you always clutch down when waiting for light or at junction?
