Logic guys. How would an idle control valve effect the way the car drives? The clue is in its title. It's an IDLE control valve. It's only used at idle!

Like I said, if it has a problem when driving it's nothing to do with the idle control valve.

you need to find out which cylinder is missfiring first and then work from there.

what coilpack and plug are you using?

randomly replacing parts is not a wise move.

Typical woman I hear you yell - well no im not, im into my cars and to be honest disappointed with this gti as its not fast enough...my astra coupe 2.2 was much more fun to drive

check this, save me to type out how to do it logically

www.ehow.com/how_79470...water.html

the thing is life is hard if you rely on your mechanics to fix this cheaply. most mechanics will just changes one part each time and wish you will never come back with the same problem.

this site is handful if you are looking for technical guideline. but not that useful for give advice to a mechanic

I wasn't trying to be funny Rolling Eyes

I was going to say if you know where the spark plugs are, the coil pack is fitted on top of them, so pop out and have a look which brand it is.

But if that's your attitude then I cba

Two things cause rough running on GTi's, coilpacks and hydraulic lifters. Invest in a new coilpack and if it's not that then there's a strong chance the lifters have a problem. An oil change might help with some hydraulic lifter treatment but there's often a need to change them.
