Suprising I Know - But yes thanks I now where the spark plugs are and what they do etc, just not sure which cylinder is misfiring thats all....and havent got the tools etc...yout know with it being a man's job to do.
I wonder why I never mentioned why I was female before...we only know how to petrol in our cars dont we

the thing is life is hard if you rely on your mechanics to fix this cheaply. most mechanics will just changes one part each time and wish you will never come back with the same problem.

this site is handful if you are looking for technical guideline. but not that useful for give advice to a mechanic

I was going to say if you know where the spark plugs are, the coil pack is fitted on top of them, so pop out and have a look which brand it is.

But if that's your attitude then I cba

Two things cause rough running on GTi's, coilpacks and hydraulic lifters. Invest in a new coilpack and if it's not that then there's a strong chance the lifters have a problem. An oil change might help with some hydraulic lifter treatment but there's often a need to change them.

or fault coolant sensor too
