#1: Project Vulpix Author: Icetto, Location: Cape TownPosted: Tue Jul 19, 2011 4:13 am ---- I should have done this in the 1st place. So here goes my project.
26 April 2010 is the day I went to collect my car. It was stock standard. I always wanted the blue 180 but couldn't find one until I found this red one. I never saw one in red before and it just looked so stunning that I had to choose the red one above the other 180s I test drove.
The day I went to collect my car:
I was very happy with the car. Drove it a month and on day 31 the clutch went. Day 32 I couldn't even get it in a gear. Luckily my warranty replaced the clutch within 3 days and the car was much better than before. Decided to drive the car for another month before I would start modifying.
#2: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Icetto, Location: Cape TownPosted: Tue Jul 19, 2011 4:14 am ---- My 1st modification June 2010
I needed more response and noise so I went to Powerflow for my exhaust. De-cat with cat fooler, 57mm front box with 63mm back box. I chose tips that looked similar to the standard tail piece. I was a joy to drive now and that popping sound as I lift off the throttle is awesome.

#3: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Icetto, Location: Cape TownPosted: Tue Jul 19, 2011 4:15 am ---- Getting creative in July 2010
I got the 180 because it was so unique but I wanted it to be even more unique so I decided to add some colour. I went to get my rims and brake calipers sprayed and the engine sprayed in unique colour combo I came up with.

#5: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Icetto, Location: Cape TownPosted: Tue Jul 19, 2011 4:16 am ---- Lighting it up for August 2010
I wanted white pulsating neon lights to go with my theme but couldn’t find any locally and importing them was gonna cost too much. Then I stumbled upon a small garage that sells strobe lights for your car. It’s something different and yet to see an other car in Cape Town with it.
Here are the videos for it (I only took these videos after I did some other mods):
#6: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Icetto, Location: Cape TownPosted: Tue Jul 19, 2011 4:17 am ---- Performance October 2010. I was looking for some performance and sportier sound so I got the GSR induction kit. I got the red one to fit in with my car.

#8: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Icetto, Location: Cape TownPosted: Tue Jul 19, 2011 4:20 am ---- The BIG mod. I was on a waiting list for 3 months to get the doors done. This is guaranteed to get attention everywhere you go.
#9: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Icetto, Location: Cape TownPosted: Tue Jul 19, 2011 4:22 am ---- Car care. I learned more about car care and changed my products and cleaning methods. Here is my 1st wax.
#10: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Icetto, Location: Cape TownPosted: Tue Jul 19, 2011 4:23 am ---- Sound system. I had a sound system since July 2010 but it was only something small. Early December 2010 I got a decent sound system installed by professional people.
So far I got 132.0 dB on SPL and 131.1 dB on bass boxing
Starsound 10” 1200W SCV
XTC Moster M5 5500W 4 channel amplifier
XTC H-6 6.5” 300W speakers up front
XTC H-5 5.25” 200W speakers at the back
Also got 300W XTC splits up front. Last edited by Icetto on Tue Oct 18, 2011 12:06 am; edited 1 time in total

#13: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Icetto, Location: Cape TownPosted: Tue Jul 19, 2011 4:29 am ---- 1st time out on the track December 2010
Finally got my car (and myself) ready for 1/4mile drags on the track. I started off badly but after 3 runs I got used to it. Currently my best time at Street 2 Strip is 15.2 (21/01/2011) and at MSA it is 15.5 (09/07/2011). Soon I will be going around the track.
#14: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Icetto, Location: Cape TownPosted: Tue Jul 19, 2011 4:31 am ---- FRC software eventually in May 2011
I got a small increase in power. Torque just seems to be climbing. The map is smoother and more fuel efficient. Can comfortably get under 10L/100km now.

#17: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Lewis, Location: Isle Of WightPosted: Tue Jul 19, 2011 4:55 am ---- M3s or crystals
I dont usually like lambo doors but I think your car pulls them off
#19: Re: Project Vulpix Author: shell-vt, Location: durhamPosted: Tue Jul 19, 2011 8:09 am ---- very nice car,But i hate them doors so much.......
#20: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Icetto, Location: Cape TownPosted: Tue Oct 18, 2011 12:12 am ---- So the FRC software has adapted and the car is way quicker off the line and through the gears. I've also been around the race track, Killarney, and set up a time of 1:41:14. That was with just a basic street set up. Next track day I will make the car lower and start playing with the camber settings. I will also be looking to race on the track with race fuel
#21: Re: Project Vulpix Author: marc206, Location: Bourne, LincsPosted: Tue Oct 18, 2011 1:12 pm ---- I love the doors lambo style where'd you get them from?

Uhmmm.....strange request but you can. Separate rooms and beds though
#29: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Icetto, Location: Cape TownPosted: Sun Oct 23, 2011 2:32 pm ---- So I got some advise that if I change exhaust that I might get some torque back.
Changed the exhaust to 63mm all around and also changed the way the piping goes around the torsion bar
#30: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Schumi, Location: Istanbul / TurkeyPosted: Mon Oct 24, 2011 2:31 am ---- Thats bad exhaust piping. You should replicate janspeed.
#31: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Mon Oct 24, 2011 2:50 am ---- All the bends are crushed. What's that downstream lambda sensor doing? It's not sat in the exhaust pipe. Is it actually doing anything?
#32: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Icetto, Location: Cape TownPosted: Mon Oct 24, 2011 3:04 am ---- Schumi I don't know what the Janspeed looks like underneath the car. I've searched and asked but got no help.
Edward can you please help. What you mean by crushed bends and how that would be bad?
Is the lamda sensor you referring to also knowns as the cat fooler? If so then it's because I have a de-cat. If that cat fooler is not in place then I will get the pollution error and possible limp mode. Many GTi in Cape Town have had that when they did not install a cat fooler on their new exhaust.
#33: Re: Project Vulpix Author: craigy00craig, Location: surreyPosted: Mon Oct 24, 2011 5:34 am ---- Love this project thread. Really want white vortex on mine!!
#34: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Icetto, Location: Cape TownPosted: Mon Nov 07, 2011 9:02 am ---- So over this weekend I had my car set up for Killarney. Lowered the car another 5mm at the front and set it to max negative camber on the BC Coillovers.
I used to have some understeer. Now I have almost nothing. The end comes out at ease now if I want it to and I just control it by putting some throttle in it. Car steers the way you point it
#35: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Icetto, Location: Cape TownPosted: Thu May 17, 2012 2:08 am ---- My left front speaker blew a few months ago and I've been wanting better sound quality for a while now.
This past Saturday I went and got Alpine SEX-1750S 6.5" split system and a proper fuse installed.
Clarity is so much better now and I can actually turn up the bass a bit as the appropriate amount of highs and mids will play with the bass.
#36: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Icetto, Location: Cape TownPosted: Mon Jun 11, 2012 5:22 am ---- Got some BP 98 octane petrol and went on the dyno. (We only have 93 and 95 at our commercial pumps in SA)
#37: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Slowride, Location: Netherlands/near RotterdamPosted: Mon Jun 11, 2012 5:33 am ---- Looks similar to mine RR, what I don't understand why you have now less power than on the RR on the previous page. (143.6hp and 203nm) With 98 you could make more Nm's when changing the ignition earlyer, but the hp's goes down
#38: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Icetto, Location: Cape TownPosted: Mon Jun 11, 2012 5:42 am ----

I have a different exhaust setup since that previous set up that made 143.6hp and 203Nm. That could have made a difference.
#39: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Slowride, Location: Netherlands/near RotterdamPosted: Mon Jun 11, 2012 6:11 am ---- Alright, that explain's alot. Yust what you want more hp's or Torque. I prefer torque the most
#40: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Icetto, Location: Cape TownPosted: Mon Jun 11, 2012 6:15 am ---- I prefer a good balance. I think the setup I have now is much better than previous one (although I know my current setup can be better). Sounds better as well and the 216Nm torque is nice for the occasional track day racing I do
#41: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Icetto, Location: Cape TownPosted: Wed Jun 27, 2012 9:20 am ---- Wow the clarity is amzing now and some nice cool functions with this headunit.
#42: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Icetto, Location: Cape TownPosted: Wed Jun 27, 2012 9:44 am ---- Got my black Zunsport Grille set and Cupra R splitter. I sprayed the splitter a darker shade of black before I got started.
All my products
Taking off the front bumper
Fitting the grilles. It took some time to align them up properly
Now for the splitter. I cut the following pieces off from the 2 clips in the middle. Cutting it off in this angle helps to align it properly as well. Measure it so that you will have 21mm left at the front part of the clip and 11mm left at the back part of the clip. Alternatively you can leave 21mm left in front and then go straight after you have cut halfway through the clip.
Then I screwed in some screws to keep the splitter sitting nice and tight. (Note that the way I screwed the screws in place that I don't need to keep the 1 screw on either side at the end of the bottom of the bumper. Those screws at the end were keeping the arch liners in place but now these new screws keep the splitter and arch liners in place)
End results Thanks Harry
#43: Re: Project Vulpix Author: sicskate, Location: Margate, KentPosted: Wed Jun 27, 2012 2:14 pm ---- No disrespect, but the bends on the exhaust are shocking.
#45: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Icetto, Location: Cape TownPosted: Mon Jul 30, 2012 3:22 am ---- 1st I would like to thank Chief93 for selling me his rims and tyres and waiting for Harry to buy and collect it on behalf of me. And then HUGE thanks to Harry who bought some more goodies on behalf of me and then for good packaging skills and constant communication.
After a long wait the shipment finally arrived at my house.
Goodridge Stainless Steel Brakelines
Black Side Indicators
Black rear fog light
Black High Brake light
Front fog lights sprayed black inside
17" Black Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 rims in Accellera Alpha 205/40/R17 tyres

#48: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Icetto, Location: Cape TownPosted: Tue Jul 31, 2012 3:12 am ---- Finally Cape Town had a sunny weekend this winter so I managed to clean my car properly. This included:
Washing the rims and the car and then drying off the car
Claying the car
Washing and drying off the car
Polishing the car
Waxing the car
Waxing the rims and tyre gel on the tyres
Total time spent = 6 hours
Managed to fit the Goodridge Stainless Steel brakelines earlier the week
Here are some photos after I washed it the 2nd time
Went to the local mall to take some photos after all of car was cleaned
#49: Re: Project Vulpix Author: Johnbyron, Location: ScunthorpePosted: Tue Jul 31, 2012 5:15 am ---- Looking really clean !! Some nice pictures here aswell
is it me or is there a big gap between the headlight and bonnet????
Yes so big I could fit my hand in there. A few months ago someone reversed/drove into me into a parking lot while I was inside the mall. After I fitted the grille I the bonnet catch fixed, bent fixed on the bonnet and the bonnet resprayed. There is still a small gap but at least I cant fit my hand in the gap anymore.

You don't need one
