#1: Rear hub nut - tightening torque Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Fri Jul 22, 2011 1:49 am ---- Got to take the rear drums off today (1.4 2003 model) as brake pedal went to the floor last night and I suspect the shoes have disintegrated. The brake fluid level is fine, but handbrake travels all the way up.
I haven't got round to buying a Haynes yet, (can't even get to Halfords to buy one) but I need to know if they recommend a tightening torque for the rear hub nut. I don't fancy swinging on the nut and crushing the bearing and the wheel falling off or undertightening and the wheel wobbling about.

The friction material had come unbonded from the shoe.
Hardest part was getting a taxi so I could get to the motor factors for the shoes.
The auto adjuster had siezed on the nearside so gave that a good clean too.
I had noticed that the handbrake was sticking on one side when left to stand overnight. Then it cured itself.
The other day some dozy mare in a chelsea tractor decided to pull out right in front of me and I locked one of the rears up, so that might have been where the damage to the shoe came from.
