Can't understand why my battery has gone flat again :(

#1: Can't understand why my battery has gone flat again :( Author: karimali831, Location: England PostPosted: Fri Jul 22, 2011 2:08 pm
    ----
After returning to my car, I turned on the stereo then locked the doors and noticed the stereo turned off and on again. I though, Oh s**t... here we go again and *click click click* when I attempt to run the engine.

I have noticed it has occurred twice while using this 75w inverter to charge my laptop:

www.homebase.co.uk/web...3EINVERTER

could this be the reason?

my second question is, when I charge the laptop via the inverter while engine is on, smoke starts to show up seconds later but I have had no problems charging it for an hour while engine was off... I was told I can use the inverter for charging laptops anyway...

any thoughts on this please?

75watts will be the MAX. Whats the constant?

does that mean peak power? I can only provide you the details from the link, that's all I know about it.

You will have max/peak and then constant/rms

For example it might be 500 max, but only 150 rms

That I do not know but obviously will avoid it from now on.
If the answer is I need a higher output watts inverter then it's fine.

Well you'd have to check the RMS, and the wattage of your laptop

I thought a battery could last up to 6 hours when engine is off! Embarassed
I used/charged laptop 1-2 hours while engine was off... at least I know now.

Oopz! Laughing

It depends what you're running, I never charge anything when the engine is off, or run the stereo for that matter.

Hang on, it's doing it only when you charge your laptop and you see smoke?! From where?! Am I getting the wrong end of the stick here?

The smoke is coming directly off the AC car cigarette adaptor of course Smile
It overheats too much when engine is on.
