#1: Bad MPG 1.9D Author: joshack, Location: MiddlesbroughPosted: Mon Jul 25, 2011 12:58 pm ---- My 1.9d seems to be getting about 25-30 mpg and im getting about 400 miles to a tank which doesnt seem right. To say the tank is about 50 litres.
Any ideas why?

#3: Re: Bad MPG 1.9D Author: joshack, Location: MiddlesbroughPosted: Mon Jul 25, 2011 1:03 pm ---- I service it every 3000 miles, air filter, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, drained water out of fuel, cleaned inlet up best i could, blanked EGR off as was broken.
#4: Re: Bad MPG 1.9D Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Mon Jul 25, 2011 1:04 pm ---- Blocking the EGR will do the MPG
Is the 400miles to a fuel light or empty?
#5: Re: Bad MPG 1.9D Author: joshack, Location: MiddlesbroughPosted: Mon Jul 25, 2011 1:19 pm ---- Empty, the inlet was covered in thick clumpy oil stuck to it so i cleaned the inside out but couldnt get to the metal inlet at the back of the block.
#6: Re: Bad MPG 1.9D Author: Seabook, Posted: Mon Jul 25, 2011 2:07 pm ---- How fast do you drive?
#7: Re: Bad MPG 1.9D Author: joshack, Location: MiddlesbroughPosted: Mon Jul 25, 2011 3:31 pm ---- Just steady away really, keep it at low rev range, trying to be in as high a gear as possible without juddering.
#8: Re: Bad MPG 1.9D Author: Seabook, Posted: Mon Jul 25, 2011 4:26 pm ---- Did the exhaust blowed? Any misfire? Stable idle?
#9: Re: Bad MPG 1.9D Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Mon Jul 25, 2011 4:29 pm ---- Have you actually worked the MPG out, or is this just a total guess?
#10: Re: Bad MPG 1.9D Author: Seb, Location: Under your bedPosted: Mon Jul 25, 2011 4:40 pm ---- Well my GTi does about 360 to the fuel light and I thought that worked out as about 32ish mpg last time I checked.
#11: Re: Bad MPG 1.9D Author: joshack, Location: MiddlesbroughPosted: Mon Jul 25, 2011 5:09 pm ---- Did it on one of those online calculators, brimmed at my Gdads then drove it around when used a bar filled up again then worked out how much diesel it took to fill up again and the amount of miles and it brought up 27mpg
#12: Re: Bad MPG 1.9D Author: joshack, Location: MiddlesbroughPosted: Mon Jul 25, 2011 5:10 pm ---- Oh and it seems to have a small misfire in 1st and 2nd then disappears but its only a small flatspot really, no exhaust blows and yeah it has a stable idle
#13: Re: Bad MPG 1.9D Author: xspongerx, Location: Newquay, CornwallPosted: Tue Jul 26, 2011 1:49 am ---- Mine does 400 to a tank...

Plus concentrated hydrochloric acid (try to get over 0.5%) or filtering thru kitty litter sometimes works
