Newbie with a problem...
-> 206 Problems

#1: Newbie with a problem... Author: SMW78, Location: North Yorks PostPosted: Tue Jul 26, 2011 10:59 am
    ----
I have joined in the hope that someone can give some help or advice.
My parents have a 51 reg 206 LX. For the last few months, they have been having intermittent starting and central locking issues with it.

The Problem
If they go to open the car using the remote, on occasion, it will not open and they have to use the key in the door. If this happens, the car will not start. It is like the immobiliser is still activated. If this has to be done, then only the door which is opened by the key will open, the rest remain locked.

There is no starting problem when the remote works.

The car drives fine and does not lose power, cut out, or break down. It simply does not start. There is no pattern to the fault. It can go for a few weeks without anything happening, and then suddenly will not open or start. Today, however, when the radio was put on, the indicators stopped working until the radio was put off again.

What We Have Tried Already
Changing the battery in the key/remote.
Changing the battery in the car.
Taken it to a local dealer, who could not find a problem, as when the car will open and start, there is no problem... and when it won't open and start, then we can't get it to the dealer!!

Any ideas welcome!!!

Either the key is faulty or the ring around the barrel is faulty

Thanks for that.
Forgot to add in the original post, that when faced with this problem, we have tried using the spare key, which yields the same result...
