#3: Re: Squeaky brakes! Author: Howey, Location: Kings LynnPosted: Fri Jul 29, 2011 3:25 am ---- Did you buy cheap pads?
#4: Re: Squeaky brakes! Author: Scootymad, Location: NorfolkPosted: Fri Jul 29, 2011 3:34 am ---- Did you abuse them?
#5: Re: Squeaky brakes! Author: lmilligan, Location: HertfordshirePosted: Fri Jul 29, 2011 3:39 am ---- I got someone I knew to do them because I didn't have the time to do them myself! I'll have a look later and pput some on! They haven't been abused either

#7: Re: Squeaky brakes! Author: lmilligan, Location: HertfordshirePosted: Fri Jul 29, 2011 4:41 am ---- Is that like a thin piece of metal that goes on after the pad?
#8: Re: Squeaky brakes! Author: Howey, Location: Kings LynnPosted: Fri Jul 29, 2011 4:48 am ---- Yeah they can be, the delphi one have like a neoprene surface on the back of the pad
#9: Re: Squeaky brakes! Author: Seabook, Posted: Fri Jul 29, 2011 5:08 am ---- did you bedded in the pad?
#10: Re: Squeaky brakes! Author: lmilligan, Location: HertfordshirePosted: Fri Jul 29, 2011 5:13 am ---- Ah i see! On one of my calipers I have a thin metal plate that goes on after the pad? Only on the drivers side caliper though. And yeah I carefully bedded them in for like 200 miles
#11: Re: Squeaky brakes! Author: panzer360gti, Location: UKPosted: Fri Jul 29, 2011 5:25 am ---- I think brakes were designed to squeal just to p@ss drivers off.
Grease the buggers, sand 'em, should quiet down after a while.

you need to brake hard but not overheating the pad when bedding in the pad

#15: Re: Squeaky brakes! Author: Werdnal, Location: Cornwall, UKPosted: Fri Jul 29, 2011 6:12 am ---- Cheap pads are brittle and go shiny. I had this when bought my 206 last year. I live out in the sticks, but at the bottom of a long hill and neighbours could hear me coming half a mile away! Previous owner had pads done for MOT but suspect he used "cheap and cheerfuls" - when we took them off you could almost see your face in them, they were so polished!
Changed to good quality pads, which also have a chamfered leading edge (supposed to prevent vibration which adds to to noise), and not a squeal since!

Bedding in of normal pads should be gentle for the first 100 or so miles. (Performance/racing pads are very different and need to be hammered!)
What are the discs like?
The Pug 206CC has Mintex and they have massive chamfers .. no noise though, but I also replaced the discs, as I did with the Alfa (and the 206 HDi, but can't remember the pad make .. Mintex again I think)
I buy my pads and discs from buypartsby.co.uk and never had a problem so far ... will be doing a Clio 1.6 soon and that's where I'll order the parts from again.
