Hello,

My name is Jeffrey and I’m a Peugeot 206 gti owner from the Netherlands. Four years a go I bought a stock Peugeot 206 gti full options. Very soon after that I bought a Zender GT bumperkit, 18inch TSW Vulcano alloy wheels and some black head and taillights. But after two years I decided to completely rebuild the car. New paint, new custom bodykit, new interior and a lots of carbonfiber goodies! (For complete project see: www.mijnalbum.nl/Album=4LNIULBX )

Shocked Thats one heck of a turn around from where it started going. i see a 180(rc) head with the VVC are you actually running the VVC? must have cost a pretty penny, I didn't think the DP would do an RC turbo (hence the question about the VVC) would be very interesting to see what you get out of it at the end of this Wink good going though !

WOW............... Just WOW

In response to Dillons comment above, DP have already turbo-d the RC a number of times. Its not the 180 (RC) head is it? I think its just the engine cover & inlet manifold.

I cant wait to see the final power figures from this, should be immense. Dare I ask how much it stands you at so far????

I know that they did it once just wasn't sure if they had a kit go into production as the cost of getting set up with an ECU was horrendous and to much work for them to undertake. I wondered about it being just the engine cover but it looks like it has the right pulley on the exhaust cam for a 180 head.

if you go on there web site when ordering parts it ask which engine

EW10J4 OR EW10J4S they do two diffrent kits and the vvt easy as long as have proper ecu on it.

i emailed them mouths ago to find out how much it all cost and email me back a list of parts and that every thing to get it running £5500

but 70% of the stuff i could get here cheaper all i would need is there exhaust manifold £900 and down pipe £90 and one to other things. iv been think along time should i turbo mine i could do it easly just should i.

Think a lot of the examples of RC turbos use piggyback management to get around the problems associated with the ECUs.... I think half the battle is getting the ECU to work alongside the BSI...

Either way, this is a completely amazing project, shame there arent more about...

Love the project Smile Just a word of warning, check that the Constella gear linkages match in length to the OEM ones as they made a few mistakes in the past, where the longest linkage was another 1cm longer then the OEM one, which means that 1,3,5 gear throws are too long to even change or just back to normal if you have the Griffiths QS installed Wink

He guys! Thanks for al the positive feedback! I honestly stopped counting the money i've spent on the car, but the engine works alone almost costed me 12k. So i think the total costs of the car will be around 30k now, so that would buy me a very nice Evo, skyline or supra, but i thinks this is so much more fun Razz

The cylinder head is actually a regular gti head, but ported to gti180 specifications With the bigger intake and exhaust ports only without the vvt. This cylinderhead will put out up to 25 bhp more than a stock ew10j4 cylinderhead so that was worth the many hours of porting and sanding. Razz

For the engine management i'm using a VEMS standalone unit, because the stock Magneti Marelli ecu has less calculation functions than a casio pocket watch. Wink
DP developed a plug and play adapter for the Vems unit. So all you have to do is spent 1200 euros, pull out the plugs of the old ecu throw it in the bin and plug them back in the VEMS unit and it's ready to ,run. The VEMS unit has al lot of nice extras, like boostcontrol, launchcontrol, tracktioncontrol and it has the option to switch between different set-ups (mappings) So i can use a basemap on regular fuel, but i can also switch to an other map on E85 fuel or switch to a map with more boost.

DP has built a few turbocharged 206 gti's and gti 180's now. One my fellow clubmembers recently upgraded his 206 gti180 turbo with a larger Garrett gt30R turbo turbo and forged internals en now puts out 471 BHP @ 1.3 bar boost. They actually maxed out the 683cc injectors, otherwise he would have around 500bhp. This setup is great for dragracing. but complet rubish voor trackday racing.

For now my car will be running at about 300BHP @ 0.7 bar boost. Because i'm going to use it on the track í don't need a lot of peak power, but a more consistant powercurve instead. For now i will run the stock internals and there for 300bhp is the absolute limit. Next year i will get a rebuild transmisson with quaife LSD and forged internals and then i can stress the turbo to his 350bhp limit without stressing the engine internals.

My powercruve will be simular like the one below (old specs from the one above)

@ brian

I think the 30hp extra to hit 500hp is just to show what's possible, but it's still way to much power for a front driven car.

I'm trying to get some of our club cars to some shows in England this year. So will see!;)

I have a money tree in my back yard! Razz

AWD would be awsome, tbut quit hard to built with and also really realy expensive to build. Luckly the VEMS standalone ecu has traction control and boost control there for we can manage the boost in 1st en 2nd gear to optimize launch en avoid wheel spin.

The whole plan for this year is to set the car up to 300bhp on regular fuel. when this is done i will start testing with different suspension and brake settings. Next year the engine will be upgraded with forged pistons and conrods and a second e85 fuel map will be added to the ecu to switch to, this will increase the power of the car to a safe and bullitproof 380bhp. The car will also lose some weight by fitting lexan windows and a light weight fiberglass trunk. The reslut will be a 1: 2,36 power to weight ratio . Then the car will be ready to compeet in the dutch time attack series, but first things first and get the engine running! Laughing

@ army-joe
The strutbrace is for sale on ebay, costs about 35 pounds

Very nice indeed!! I like Very Happy

Being a performance noob, i may be wrong here. However, even with the heatshield on the induction, surely that exposed K&N Cone Filter is only sucking up engine heat, with no direct cold air feed??

The air will first be guided throug the intercooler and cooled down, so there's no need to suck cool air as the air is already cool enough.

Today i've mounted the 206 gti180 intake manifold with the custom Honda B18 70mm throttle body. I also installed some of the intercoolerpiping and vacuumhosing and ordered some missing pipes to make the last connections. Still need to find a good spot for the HKS Blowoff valve, but as you guys can see there isn't al lot of space left under the hood Razz

Hey Guys! After a few weeks of silence it has been a very busy weekend!A lot of small work has been done on the car.

The Sparco 6-point rollcage has been painted and installed and the custom interior is nearly finished now

The engine work is nearly completed, Just waiting for a few parts now to arrive (and some money).

Also fitted a Golden Eagle diffuser this weekend! This diffuser is common on a lot of Japanese drag and trackcars. It lowers drag of the rearbumper, because the wind can now escape through the holes in the diffuser and bumper. It still has to be spray painted matt black for finishing touch.

And last but not least i started fitting and welding the custom Simons 3" inch exhaust today

.

Thats a showcage it's fitted on the upper front seatbelt bolts en the lower rear seatbelt point. Is from Dimma that also designed the wrc widebody kit.
It costs a fortune, but for that money you don't have to strip the car down and it's plug and play!

It's been a while, but i can say the 206 turbo is nearly ready to be dyno tuned by DP Engineering, i'm just waiting for the custom exhaust, VEMS standaloneunit and 683cc injectors to arrive.

Last few months i've been busy modifing the front an rear bumper, making the brembo brakes fit and of course finishing the engine bay. I also removed the oem carbon spoiler and bought a J's Racing full adjustable carbon spoiler (normally for honda civic)

Here some pics of what i've been doing last months:

No still waiting for some parts to arrive, but with this setup and turbo i can put out max 385bhp on E85 fuel and on regular fuel 350 bhp. At first the car will be set to about 325 bhp. That should be enough for now and stock internals and stock driveshafts.

Yesterday my new carbon spoiler arrived from Hong Kong, so before and after the football match of Netherlands VS Brazil i installed it on the car. It's actually made for the new Suzuki Swift, but it's fits perfectly on a 206. I added some extra support rods to cope with the stress on the brackets!

Today my VEMS standalone and Siemens 663cc injectors arrived and i immediatly installed them. The Vems standalone is still running on a base map, but hopefully will be mapped at the end of this month.

Here some features of the Vems standalone unit:

- Launch control deactivation dependant on road speed
- Wideband lambda function
- Gear based boost control (different boost levels for the individual gears, open or closed-loop operation!)
- Optional 1 GigaByte internal memory card to allow internal datalog collection (log during race, review later!)
- Optional LCD display

Last week when i was mouting the Brembo calipers on the custom brackets, i noticed some of the pistons were stuck in the caliper. So i decided to completly refurbish them with new seals en dustcaps. And this weekend i finally mounted them on my car! Laughing

Brake Setup:
- Brembo 4 piston calipers "front"
- Zimmerman 305mm discbrakes "front"
- Custom made spacerbrackets
- Original calipers "rear"
- Zimmerman 247mm discbrakes "rear"
- Goodridge stainlessteel brakelines
- Ferodo DS2500 brake pads "front & Rear"
- Motul RBF 600 Racing brakefluid

The last thing on my list is to finish up the welding of the exhaust and the car is ready for some mapping at DP-Engineering.

Nothing on my car is without purpose! The support rods provide extra stability to the spoiler otherwise the spoiler would wobble to much.

If those support rods are serving a purpose and taking load then I hope you've got shares in whoever makes them.

They are meant to be used in tension not compression. They will not add stability under compression so you will be likely to find they will bend or just wobble about.

this is why the bumper has holes!

"Also fitted a Golden Eagle diffuser this weekend! This diffuser is common on a lot of Japanese drag and trackcars. It lowers drag of the rearbumper, because the wind can now escape through the holes in the diffuser and bumper. It still has to be spray painted matt black for finishing touch. "

IMHO it won't make a blind bit of difference. The rest of the car is not aerodynamic enough for the diffuser to be a significant gain/loss of time.

I am playing devils advocate here; But if you CAN prove that the mod has a significant affect on downforce in a peugeot 206 then I would be very interested in that Smile

The shape of this specific model rearbumper acts like one big parachute, because it's lower than the original 206 bumper. The holes only let the air underneath the car escape easier. If you would have read the complete topic you would have noticed the bottom of the car will be closed after the exhaust has been installed, simulair to the picture below.

However it's not possible to to completly make the bottom airtight and that's why the holes are in the car. It might not been proved on a 206, beacause it's never been done as far as i know i'm the first one that is experimenting with it. Anyhow there have been enough test on other cars on wich it had good results, so we will see.

I now see why you brought this up, i only had pictures of the old desing on in this topic, i forgot to post the pictures of the new design . This is the final design of the spoilerrods, 10mm thick aluminum rods with m6 threads at each end with stainles steel balljoints on them.

After almost 8 months of hard labour i finally was able to take the pug for a little ride. Still with stock ecu and injectors and still without exhaust. But i had to be certain there were no fluid leaks en the new brakes en clutch worked as the should.

Conclusions

- With the Sachs Race clutch it's all or nothing.
- The brembo bigbrakes almost got my head against the window while breaking
- The HKS blowoff valve makes an insane sound even at only 0.6 bar boost (will run at 0.9bar boost)
- The Tailwaste gate with screampipe gives cool flames underneath the car

This Friday the exhaust will be ready and the friday after that the car will go to DP Engineering for the mapping at max 0.9 bar boost. This should give it about 350bhp and 450nm of torque, but i think i will keep it a little bit safer at 320 BHP! Razz And then on the 31th of August i will drive it on The track of Zandvoort, om that same day i will drive a Lamborghini Gallardo, Porsche GT 3, Aston Martin V8 vantage and some more supercars....Ofcourse i will post some cool movies after that! Very Happy

Here some pics i took today:

The front bumper is modified to give as much downforce as possible. The shape of the bumper with the chopped front fenders gives the 206 a complete unique look from the front! Besides that i needed a bumper wich had enough clearence to house a big ass intercooler and oilcooler Laughing

I had some spare time today to wash the car up and make som pictures of it. Due to a greasy clutch caused by leakage of coolant the clutch slips at 5000 rpm. So for now the car is limited at 5000rmp till the Sachs Racing clutch grips normally. The car now drives on a 0.6 bar base map and already puts out 220bhp at 5000rpm. Next month when the clutch problem is fixed the car will be mapped at 0.7 bar and without the rpm limited! CAN'T WAIT!!!

After some problems with the temprature of the engine i decided to completly redo the front end of the car in order te get it right for the first time attack session on the 27th of march.

What did i do:
- Completley removed airconditioning
- Modified / chopped fanshroud
- 12 inch "Push & Pull" fan
- Relocated the oil cooler
- Custom Baffleplated sump
- Removed some coolant hoses and replaced them for aluminum pipe

Old situation

New situation:

By cutting out a section of the fanshroud and removing the aircon radiator the radiator now gets more cool air than before, especially with the new radiator-fan wich is now directly mounted on the radiator instead of 3"inch in front of it.In the old situation the oilcooler was on the richt side behind the front bumper, but that didn't worked as much as i hoped for. In the new situation it's next to the radiator, but not behind the intercooler so it will cool the oil much better than before.

White_noise,

great project ! I 've been following it for a long time.

Now I have a question based in your experience:
when did you start facing problems with cooling the engine? only in racing events or in regular street use as well?

I have a regular EW10J4 engine and I'm working in a turbo project, with the forged conrods+pistons to be installed soon and start the turbo installation. It will not be same kind of project as yours. Will be much more simple. Expect to get 250 to 280bhp. My concern has always been the thermal efficiency, concerned if the stock engine bay will be enough for cooling down the car properly.

Do you have any experience or comments about that?

I already had the problem with street use. First i removed the aircon radiator, this solved the problem enougt to drive it on the streets without any problems. But for track use i needed more cooling that's why i chopped the fanshroud and made al these other adjustments.

However the 206 turbo's DP engineering has build for the last few years did not have these cooling problems, but they al drove with stock bumpers so that might be the reason why the cooling on my car was not that great!

For the last few weeks i've done a lot of work to get the car done for the last meeting of our peugeot206club.nl this year. And i can finally say the car is done (for this year) Wink . The car is set for a new mapping in January and will finally get it's full power Laughing . After that there will be some adjustments on the suspension in order to get the chassis more rigid. To achieve that i'm goint to mount an UltraRacing H-Brace underneath the subframe, all the rubbers will be replaced by Super Pro polyurethane bushings and i'm going to ad front and rear reactionbars from WhiteLine.
Hopefully it will end up in some good results on the first Time Attack on march the 27th on the TT circuit Assen.

Here some pictures of this weekend:

About the engine build...It's great it's finally done and i'm very pleased withe the results, but if i knew what i know now i would have never build it myself. It gave me to much stress and headache and it oke way to long to solve al the little problems. The setup i have should easily do 350bhp, but for now 310bhp is enough as the stock conrods will bent and twist under more power.

27th of march i will drive the the first time attack session of this year on the TT circuit of Assen. After that there will be some suspension upgrades, but the main goal is to drive as much as i can with this car this summer.

This kit is not cheap but it fits like a glove, There are several replica kits on the market wich will cost you less, but usually fit like sh*t.

My advise: Never buy cheap! unless you like the sensation of fiberglass and epoxy burning on your skin.... Wink

As we speak i'm making some last modifications for the first Dutch Time Attack on March the 27th.

I've upgraded the Brembo bigbrakes with Ferrodo Ds2500 brakingpads for more stoppingpower and less fading. And i've applied foam padding on the rollcage for safety reasons . This weekend i will shortly install my other 17 inch oz superturismos trackwheels with the Toyo r888 semi-slicks so we can align the wheels properly and give them the right degree of camber. Laughing

After two years of building and modifing, the 206 gti turbo has finally been on the track last weekend. There wasn't enough time to do some extended track testing so the first time on the track was immediately the first edition of the Dutch time attack series on the TT circuit of Assen.

In the first 20 minutes of the warm-up session the handeling of the car was rubbish and i drove a poor 2:28 as my best time. After some minor adjustments with the camber, spring damping and tyre pressure the car responded a lot better.

In the qualifing round of 20 minutes i made up some time and with a 2:18 i had qualified myself for the finale. In the finale round you only have one lap to set a good time, but unforunatly the clutch was overheated due to a bad time schedual (the organisation had planned the qualifing and finale in one session) so there was no time to made some adjustments and cool the brakes and clutch. Eventually with a slipping clutch i still drove my fastest time of the day in this round with a time of 2:14 and became 6th overall of the 30 competitors in the semi-pro street class.

This day was suppose to be a test to make sure the car was ready to compeed and it turned out to be a huge succes. Next month there will be some huge modifications on the susspension to make the car more rigid.

Yeah the oil pipe from the sandwichplate to the oil cooler was broken and spilled al the oil, but no damage to the engine.

My car is runnig great, the combination of sachs multipuk performance clutch and Oem pressure plate is still not what it should be, but for now it is what it is. I'm first going tu upgrade the suspension with SuperPro Polyurethane bushings, Whiteline front and rear anti-rollbars and Ultra Racing H-brace.

It does sound like you have a slipping clutch, But I thought maybe it was tyre spin-up..... do you have a LSD fitted?, I found that was one of the first modifications I made after first test. I now have new gear ratios and will be setting up suspension options at the next test. I currently have Gaz suspension all round which is custom made to my spec...

I've decieded to as less possible on the car this summer, except driving it. I've spent almost two years building it and it's about time i started driving it. Up coming winter the car will get a repaint and will get wider wheel arches and a new transmision with Quaife LSD and Sachs high performance pressure plate.

I'm currently driving with D2 shocks with camber adjustments. Not the best you can buy, but a fair price to quality ratio. The rest of the suspension is still completly stock. With the upcomming suspension mods the car should be handeling a lot better.

Hi White_Noise,

Could you tell me what was involved in pairing the Honda TB with the GTI 180 Intake manifold. I've come across a cheap GTI180 inlet manifold, and would love a detailed on response, on what needs to be done.

PS: Its going on a GTI138HP

You need to portmatch the cilinderhead in order to make the 180 inlet work on rhe 138. you have to fabricate a flange underneath the inlet for the steppermotor and in order to make honda tb work you have to drill new tap holes in the 180 inlet and completly modify the honda tb to work with al the peugeot tb sensors. And you also have to make a new tb cable mount. Eventually for a non turbo setup yo much effort for to little power gain

After several modifications on the stock the coolingsystem there was still a lack of sufficient cooling. So i've decided to completly chop the the stock radiatorhousing and design a new one out of stainless steel to fit a full size Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 5 Raditor. This radiator is twice as thick as the oem peugeot 206 gti radiator and also 100mm longer, so it has twice as much cooling capacity.

First i've removed the old plastick fanshroud and made a new upper horizontal beam out of 2mm stainless steel and then cut out the lower horizontal beam and welded in two new vertical box sections on boths sides in order to make the bigger radiator fit.

Relocated the fan relais in to the bumper beam

Lower horizontal beam boledt in to place also made out of 2mm stainless steel bent to a 90 degree angle.

Covered the sides with stainless steel sheets and bent to 45 degree to force the air into the radiator

Sheet of stainless steel to cover up the relais and extra support for the intercooler mounts.

New radiator fitted in new frame

Dubble 12inch slimfans for extra cooling, these can be turned on manully from inside the car by switch

Intercooler installed

Still had to find a new place for the oil cooler, so i've made a new supprt bracket out of stainless steel bent to 90 degree angle.

Oil cooler installed on new bracket

Intercooler back in place and now i've just have to wait for all the new fittings and stainles steel braided hoses for the oil cooler and were ready to race again.

Unless its changed from the original build then it was on standard internals!

quite clearly ses his decomp plate and twin head gasket. Also later on in the thread he said pistons/rods are future plans.
