Outstanding work

In response to Dillons comment above, DP have already turbo-d the RC a number of times. Its not the 180 (RC) head is it? I think its just the engine cover & inlet manifold.
I cant wait to see the final power figures from this, should be immense. Dare I ask how much it stands you at so far????
I know that they did it once just wasn't sure if they had a kit go into production as the cost of getting set up with an ECU was horrendous and to much work for them to undertake. I wondered about it being just the engine cover but it looks like it has the right pulley on the exhaust cam for a 180 head.

if you go on there web site when ordering parts it ask which engine
EW10J4 OR EW10J4S they do two diffrent kits and the vvt easy as long as have proper ecu on it.
i emailed them mouths ago to find out how much it all cost and email me back a list of parts and that every thing to get it running £5500
but 70% of the stuff i could get here cheaper all i would need is there exhaust manifold £900 and down pipe £90 and one to other things. iv been think along time should i turbo mine i could do it easly just should i.

#22: Re: Dutch 206 gti turbo time attack racers Author: Tarmac-Terrorist, Location: West YorkshirePosted: Mon Mar 08, 2010 12:45 pm ---- Think a lot of the examples of RC turbos use piggyback management to get around the problems associated with the ECUs.... I think half the battle is getting the ECU to work alongside the BSI...
Either way, this is a completely amazing project, shame there arent more about...
#23: Re: Dutch 206 gti turbo time attack racers Author: =ZiAn=, Location: SloveniaPosted: Mon Mar 08, 2010 12:51 pm ---- Love the project Just a word of warning, check that the Constella gear linkages match in length to the OEM ones as they made a few mistakes in the past, where the longest linkage was another 1cm longer then the OEM one, which means that 1,3,5 gear throws are too long to even change or just back to normal if you have the Griffiths QS installed

#29: Re: Dutch 206 gti turbo time attack racers Author: White_Noise, Location: NetherlandsPosted: Mon Mar 08, 2010 5:05 pm ---- He guys! Thanks for al the positive feedback! I honestly stopped counting the money i've spent on the car, but the engine works alone almost costed me 12k. So i think the total costs of the car will be around 30k now, so that would buy me a very nice Evo, skyline or supra, but i thinks this is so much more fun
The cylinder head is actually a regular gti head, but ported to gti180 specifications With the bigger intake and exhaust ports only without the vvt. This cylinderhead will put out up to 25 bhp more than a stock ew10j4 cylinderhead so that was worth the many hours of porting and sanding.
For the engine management i'm using a VEMS standalone unit, because the stock Magneti Marelli ecu has less calculation functions than a casio pocket watch.
DP developed a plug and play adapter for the Vems unit. So all you have to do is spent 1200 euros, pull out the plugs of the old ecu throw it in the bin and plug them back in the VEMS unit and it's ready to ,run. The VEMS unit has al lot of nice extras, like boostcontrol, launchcontrol, tracktioncontrol and it has the option to switch between different set-ups (mappings) So i can use a basemap on regular fuel, but i can also switch to an other map on E85 fuel or switch to a map with more boost.
DP has built a few turbocharged 206 gti's and gti 180's now. One my fellow clubmembers recently upgraded his 206 gti180 turbo with a larger Garrett gt30R turbo turbo and forged internals en now puts out 471 BHP @ 1.3 bar boost. They actually maxed out the 683cc injectors, otherwise he would have around 500bhp. This setup is great for dragracing. but complet rubish voor trackday racing.
For now my car will be running at about 300BHP @ 0.7 bar boost. Because i'm going to use it on the track í don't need a lot of peak power, but a more consistant powercurve instead. For now i will run the stock internals and there for 300bhp is the absolute limit. Next year i will get a rebuild transmisson with quaife LSD and forged internals and then i can stress the turbo to his 350bhp limit without stressing the engine internals.
My powercruve will be simular like the one below (old specs from the one above)
