#1: Bolt won't unscrew off n/s wing Author: karimali831, Location: EnglandPosted: Tue Aug 09, 2011 9:00 am ---- Trying to get my wing replaced but can't get the last bolt unscrewed, it will turn and turn but not unbolt could it be damaged due to the severity of the dent or am I unbolting incorrectly? Need to take it out one way of the other, I feel like snapping it off right now.. can't put up with it being attached on there anymore..
When I unbolted the screws of the wing closest to the door, the wing was pulled out at an angle and maybe interfered with the angling of the bolt that won't unscrew.
Any ideas what I can do to get the wing removed? This is shot I took:
Thanks again.

Could all so try some WD40 on it to help it a long. Be carefull not to snap it.
#3: Re: Bolt won't unscrew off n/s wing Author: Antknee, Location: ManchesterPosted: Tue Aug 09, 2011 9:03 am ---- like mikey said, needs holding from underneath, get some mole grips or pliers on it through the arch lining
#4: Re: Bolt won't unscrew off n/s wing Author: CD-B3, Location: Salisbury / New ForestPosted: Tue Aug 09, 2011 9:03 am ---- They always do that from my experience.
The metal square on the end of the bolt just spins in its flimsy plastic housing.
Get a pair of molegrips up in the bumper and get someone else to undo the nut.
#5: Re: Bolt won't unscrew off n/s wing Author: MrrNoName, Location: UKPosted: Tue Aug 09, 2011 9:04 am ---- I would try and grab the top of the pole with a set of grips to stop it from spinning and then get a spanner on the bolt to loosen it, once its loose you should be able to get it off easier, depending on how rusted it is though the grips might not hold it and you might have to hold it form undeneath (2 person job really)
EDIT: also you could try taking the arch liner out (2 mushroom clips in the arch and two screws on theunderside of the bumper) it doesnt take long and it might make it easier to get to the bottom of it
#6: Re: Bolt won't unscrew off n/s wing Author: PugJH, Location: NorthantsPosted: Tue Aug 09, 2011 9:34 am ---- What i did was wedge a socket on the square half *underside* hold that tight while turning the bolt on top, the closer you are to getting it off the harder it gets as the bolt starts wanting to go at an angle
#7: Re: Bolt won't unscrew off n/s wing Author: craigy00craig, Location: surreyPosted: Tue Aug 09, 2011 9:48 am ---- This happened to me on my old 206 you really do need two people to get it off, right pain in the a**e. When you put it back in do it upside down so the nut is on the bottom. This will make it easier to get off next time
#8: Re: Bolt won't unscrew off n/s wing Author: karimali831, Location: EnglandPosted: Tue Aug 09, 2011 10:15 am ---- I can see where this is coming from now, damn manufacturer has really bolted this to an extent... I tried mole grips on the underside and loosen on top but doesn't matter how tight I hold it, it will loose grip... need another set of hands for the job
Thanks all!

I wasn't going to bolt that one back tbh, I'm sure it is secure without it anyway... every bolt rusted is just making me bleed away. Can't wait to get the job done

#12: Re: Bolt won't unscrew off n/s wing Author: mattievrs, Location: LeicesterPosted: Tue Aug 09, 2011 10:30 am ---- it connects to the resonator box on the bottom of the airbox for air flow

Even with 3 of us, we can't do it... it is just too tight and rusty. I have to some how cut it off... what part is best to cut off?

that sucks. Angle grinder would probably be the easiest option, just cut the crap out of it
#15: Re: Bolt won't unscrew off n/s wing Author: karimali831, Location: EnglandPosted: Tue Aug 09, 2011 3:46 pm ---- Going to take to garage tommorow, there is no tools I have got to get the job done.
#16: Re: Bolt won't unscrew off n/s wing Author: MrrNoName, Location: UKPosted: Wed Aug 10, 2011 3:49 am ---- fair enough, I wouldnt admit defeat though lol. id probably put some penetrating oil on it and let it soak in, then get a really good grip on the bottom and a good spanner on the top.
not to rub it in, but I removed this bolt the other day and it came off fine, didnt even give it a second thought lol. strange that
#17: Re: Bolt won't unscrew off n/s wing Author: karimali831, Location: EnglandPosted: Wed Aug 10, 2011 11:30 am ---- They stressed out at the garage, they had to use the best strongest tools for it with spray of course, these home tools were no good. Replaced the wing anyway and shines nicely but didn't reassemble that bolt back in... mine is 1999 model so by now at least most of the bolts are probably rusted away and damaged.
#18: Re: Bolt won't unscrew off n/s wing Author: Matt, Posted: Wed Aug 10, 2011 11:33 am ---- you need to saw it off and replace with something better for next time.
the square metal plate underneath is just spinning in the plastic slot on the bumper.
