The boot is great when the top is up as it is so big and roomy, but very very small when the top is down. It is also not big enought to accomodate a spare wheel but there is a foam kit which will repair the tyre and get you to a garage to get it repaired.

You can fit a space saver in the boot,takes up a bit of room though and you'll need to strap it down so it doesn't slide sbout,but put it in face down and you can keep a first aid kit and umbrella in the wheel dish
From what I've read the CC only had a spare as an optional extra
The cans are ok for normal punctures but anything over 5mm you can just about forget it
Also a lot of places are reluctant to fix tyres treated with the sealing goop and will recommend you get a new tyre, I worked at Kwik-fit a few years ago and we were told that we couldn't repair sealed tyres so the customer would need a new one ( after all how do you find a hole that's been sealed??)

had a look under and it looks like the metal "straps" which hold in in place have snapped off and gone, can these be replaced by local car parts place or does it need to be welded in place?

Probably not. The CC has strengthening bars which attach to a box-like structure underneath the boot floor. That's exactly where the spare would need to go. Last edited by gazza82 on Thu Sep 22, 2011 5:07 am; edited 1 time in total

You probably could or get a couple of clamp on repair hangers like this CLICK ME but to be perfectly honest a new back box would be the best option
I know the back box for my 1.6 CC is available from ebay for around £50 including a new clamp and rubbers,they're quite easy to replace if you don't mind scrabbling about under the car
