#1: Clutch slipping - advice please Author: vaughan1993, Location: Sheffield, South YorkshirePosted: Fri Aug 12, 2011 10:27 am ---- Hi everyone
Recently my clutch has started slipping and is fairly noticeable in 3,4 and 5 but not too bad in lower gears. I was just wondering will this mean I will need to replace the whole clutch or could it just be the cable?
Any help will be appreciated

#3: Re: Clutch slipping - advice please Author: Bassline_Toad, Location: Chester, UKPosted: Fri Aug 12, 2011 11:33 am ---- I'd replace the clutch.
#4: Re: Clutch slipping - advice please Author: vaughan1993, Location: Sheffield, South YorkshirePosted: Fri Aug 12, 2011 12:22 pm ---- I think the reason it's slipping is because I've had it remapped n the clutch can't handle the power. Just seems weird though how had it done bout a month ago n only just started doin it , could just be a coincedence but if I can't repair it without replacing the clutch then might have to spend a bit more and get an uprated one so it don't go again.
Does anyone know the best place to get an uprated clutch for my 2000 206 2.0 hdi at the cheapest price possible as I haven't got much to get it sorted ?(18 on an apprenticeship wage so not much spare after insurance)
#5: Re: Clutch slipping - advice please Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Fri Aug 12, 2011 12:25 pm ---- I'm pretty sure the standard clutch could handle a re-map pal, I think they're ok until at least 200bhp
#6: Re: Clutch slipping - advice please Author: vaughan1993, Location: Sheffield, South YorkshirePosted: Sat Aug 13, 2011 7:53 am ---- Is there anyway to repair the clutch to stop it from slipping without replacing it?
#7: Re: Clutch slipping - advice please Author: smileysue, Location: SheffieldPosted: Sat Aug 13, 2011 9:51 am ---- The only way to repair it is to remove it from the car. to be honest if your going to repair it you may as well replace it.
The clutch is made up of 3 main parts- bearing- drive plate (the bit with the friction material on) and clutch (all metal cover and pressure plate, the heavy bit of the 3) The cause of slipping is normally wear on the drive plate friction material. I can remove and replace the friction material for the LuK clutches.
the only problem with that is i cannot gaurentee it will work as you could have wear in the clutch as well.
Does anyone know the correct peugeot part number for this car (for the 3 components)

horsepower don't kill clutch.
torque does.
and btw, 2.0HDi don't have clutch cable.
#9: Re: Clutch slipping - advice please Author: vaughan1993, Location: Sheffield, South YorkshirePosted: Sat Aug 13, 2011 11:25 am ---- The car does torque steer on set off sometimes so that could have finished it off. Dince it's remapped am I best off getting another standard clutch or paying a bit extra for a heavy duty one. And does anyone know the sort of prices I will be looking at for both?
#10: Re: Clutch slipping - advice please Author: Seabook, Posted: Sat Aug 13, 2011 12:12 pm ---- uprate clutch kit you are looking at 350 parts only
torque steering?
looks like your wishbone or driveshaft is in bad shape
#11: Re: Clutch slipping - advice please Author: vaughan1993, Location: Sheffield, South YorkshirePosted: Sun Aug 14, 2011 6:37 am ---- How much will it be for labour (average)?
#12: Re: Clutch slipping - advice please Author: vaughan1993, Location: Sheffield, South YorkshirePosted: Mon Aug 15, 2011 4:24 am ---- Can somebody tell me will I need to change the concentric slave cylinder and the dual mass flywheel as well as the clutch or will it be okay with the one that is in if the clutch is only slipping and has not gone completely?
#13: Re: Clutch slipping - advice please Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Mon Aug 15, 2011 4:28 am ---- 2.0 hdi fitted in the 206 doesnt have a dual mass flywheel, only the w**ky 1.6 HDI does
#14: Re: Clutch slipping - advice please Author: MrrNoName, Location: UKPosted: Mon Aug 15, 2011 4:33 am ---- a remap wont have killed the clutch, holding it on the bite and burnout starts will
you need to replace it
there is no need to fit a new flywheel unless the original one is warped
#15: Re: Clutch slipping - advice please Author: vaughan1993, Location: Sheffield, South YorkshirePosted: Mon Aug 15, 2011 5:11 am ---- Found these heavy duty clutches on ebay
Is it worth paying more for one of these than a standerd one. I.e will it run better/smoother and will it last longer (in theory)?
#16: Re: Clutch slipping - advice please Author: Seabook, Posted: Mon Aug 15, 2011 6:32 am ---- not sure about the top one.
but the second one is s***, Technic clutch is known to be problematic and cheap and s***, if you don't believe me google it yourself.
there is a reason why helix clutch (the one i mention above) is not cheap.
standard oem clutch(luk/valeo/sachs) is about 100-120
#17: Re: Clutch slipping - advice please Author: vaughan1993, Location: Sheffield, South YorkshirePosted: Mon Aug 15, 2011 8:40 am ---- Okay will avoid second link as they are very bad quality. Thanks for the advice Seabook. Has anyone ever bought the first clutch (link cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBay...:MEWAX:IT) for their 206's or know anyone who has, would lovwe to know if they are good quality or just some more s**t.
I think that a LUK/Valeo standard clutch will be okay on the car but still in two minds whether it is worth paying the extra for the heavy duty one. I've heard they are more durable and also make the car a little faster (with the reamap).
#18: Re: Clutch slipping - advice please Author: Seabook, Posted: Mon Aug 15, 2011 10:44 am ---- they are not heavy duty clutch kit or uprate clutch kit or performance clutch
#19: Re: Clutch slipping - advice please Author: vaughan1993, Location: Sheffield, South YorkshirePosted: Tue Aug 16, 2011 4:58 am ---- Thanks again seabook for saving me from buying a standard clutch for alot of money but i now think I have found a fast track clutch that is what it says it is. It is from C G Motorsport and is around £150 plus delivery.
Have had a good luck on google and forums and this website has alot of good reviews for quality of their uprated clutches, especially for the price.
#20: Re: Clutch slipping - advice please Author: Seabook, Posted: Tue Aug 16, 2011 5:15 am ---- they are good because their "fast road" kit is just stock valeo clutch
all good oem clutch can handle 30% uprate torque with no problem
#21: Re: Clutch slipping - advice please Author: MrrNoName, Location: UKPosted: Tue Aug 16, 2011 5:17 am ---- A heavy duty clutch will not improve performance on a standard 206 with just a remap lol, a standard one will be more then fine and will last 100K+ miles of normal driving if looked after
save yourself the money and just get a regular one.
#22: Re: Clutch slipping - advice please Author: vaughan1993, Location: Sheffield, South YorkshirePosted: Tue Aug 16, 2011 6:46 am ---- If I were to get a standard valeo clutch I misewell get one from the garage. I rung him n he quoted me 102 for a valeo or luk clutch n 150 fitting with a gear oil change so £250 altogether which isn't bad really.
#23: Re: Clutch slipping - advice please Author: MrrNoName, Location: UKPosted: Tue Aug 16, 2011 6:55 am ---- bargain if you ask me.
#24: Re: Clutch slipping - advice please Author: Seabook, Posted: Wed Aug 17, 2011 2:40 am ---- sounds about right to me.
