#1: 1.1 206 W Plate Reving On Its Own... Author: adz2k3, Location: United Kingdom PostPosted: Fri Aug 12, 2011 1:17 pm

Hi there guys & girls, new to the French sceen...

Basically ive just bought a 206 1.1 LX Had it a month been lovly, no problems.. but this evening.. It was reving on its own to around 3-4k without touching the throttle....

And seems to have drunk quite a bit of petrol as well.

Its only every now and again it does it... So far ive cleaned the butterfly valve on the throttle. As i fort it may of been that sticking.

Any ideas or pointers would be greatly appriciated.

Many Thanks!

Adz

Sorry to sound silly... Is that on the tb bit at top of the engine? How do they come of? And clean with brake cleaner?

Thanks once again!

Have a look on eBay and you'll find pictures of 206 stepper motors

But the fact your engine is revving up to 4k seemingly on its own then it might well be your MAP sensor at fault which tells the ECU how much air it believes the engine is taking in and the ECU adjusts the fuel to suit that airflow. So the fact you're also burning fuel might point more to the MAP as the idle stepper motor only comes in to play at idle rpm

Even then there may be nothing wrong with your MAP sensor and may be a simple poor contact there. Easy to spot if you have an OBD interface giving you live engine running data but a first step might be to disconnect the MAP sensor and spray the connections there with electrical contact cleaner (nothing else), let it dry and then give it a try

Sometimes you need to reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for an hour or so and then it recalibrates what it sees as the "new" MAP sensor

Is the map sensor underneath on that tb bit? like before it enters the butterfly valve bit?

To reset the ecu.. Isit a case of just leaving the battery disconnected for a hour and connecting back on.. then job done kind of thing?

Thanks

i had same problem on my first 206. it was a faulty coilpack. changed it and had no problems, i was able to drive round the block without touching the accelerator.

You disconnect the battery negative, you wait an hour or so, you reconnect it again. Maybe it is a bit technical Very Happy

Try your stepper motor first though

From what I understand, you should follow the procedure for battery disconnection 'whenever a vehicle battery has to be disconnected' as described in that topic. And it's not really that complicated - just read through it first so you know what you're doing.
