#1: Central Locking Problem Author: Cookieace, Location: ThetfordPosted: Wed Aug 17, 2011 8:08 am ---- Got myself a 1999 peugeot 206 1.4 LX.
The central locking doesn't work, this is with both the key fob and manually, I have to look every single door manually including the boot.
Could it be that the fuse has gone, if so what fuse?
If not then any other suggestions, thanks a lot
#2: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: Cookieace, Location: ThetfordPosted: Wed Aug 17, 2011 11:51 am ---- I emailed a Peugeot dealer and said it could be various problems and it would be like £54 to get a diagnostic test.
#3: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: Cookieace, Location: ThetfordPosted: Thu Aug 18, 2011 12:46 am ---- Anyone at all?
#4: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: Deckchair5, Location: Bath UKPosted: Thu Aug 18, 2011 1:31 am ---- Have a look in the 206 talk section and there's a beginners guide to the 206 which lists all the fuses and their location
You can also download the owners handbook which also lists the fuses and their location
#5: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: vaughan1993, Location: Sheffield, South YorkshirePosted: Thu Aug 18, 2011 2:28 am ---- I had the same problem with mine and the garage tried charging me for a new bsi unit which was £300. In the end the bsi just need resetting as it sometimes trips out, especially when your fiddling with the battery all the time. The key will only reset though if it flashes red when you press the button anyway, otherwise you'll need a new battery for the key. If I remember correctly the steps to reset it are as follows:
1. Start the car and then turn off the engine
2. Pop the bonnet and put the drivers window down and lock all the doors (from the outside)
3. Wait 3 minutes (the bsi needs time to shut down)
4. Take off the battery terminal and wait for 15-20 seconds, then re-attatch it.
5. Lean through the drivers window and turn on the side lights (DONT OPEN THE DOORS)
6. Put key in and turn the ignition on, but not the engine
7. Hold button on key for 10 seconds.
8. Turn ignition off and try the doors - they should now work
9. Turn the engine on and off so the bsi saves the changes.
This worked for me first time but if it doesn't then try the fuses after as they are then next cheapest to replace. If it doesn't work you haven't lost anything as it won't cost to try it.
Let us know how you get on.
#6: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: Deckchair5, Location: Bath UKPosted: Thu Aug 18, 2011 3:29 am ---- I think you're talking about remote central locking not working and doing a remote resynch. Cookieace is saying the doors don't central lock at all and each door has to be locked individually
#7: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: Abzynthe, Posted: Thu Aug 18, 2011 3:40 am ---- Central locking: if water gets into the control box, which is located in the footwell, the central locking system is known to fail. Examples produced before spring 1999 are the worst affected by this problem, so check potential buys for water ingress.
#8: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: Cookieace, Location: ThetfordPosted: Thu Aug 18, 2011 11:16 am ---- I now have one mine is a late 1999, like October/November.
Any ideas as to hoe to fix this problem? I but realised their is a fuse missing for the central locking I'm hoping it's that.
#9: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: Cookieace, Location: ThetfordPosted: Thu Aug 18, 2011 12:35 pm ---- Update: Just put a fuse in and when I go to lock the doors all the locks pop back up, apart from the drivers door which stays down and the passenger door doesn't move at all. But the other two doors and boot are the ones which bounce. When I go to lock the car no locks move apart from the drivers side, any suggestions or ideas people :)?
Thanks a lot.
#10: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: Deckchair5, Location: Bath UKPosted: Thu Aug 18, 2011 1:00 pm ---- I expect the previous owner took the fuse out because of the lock problem. Have a look here unlocks
#11: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: Cookieace, Location: ThetfordPosted: Thu Aug 18, 2011 1:25 pm ---- Deckchair5 look at what I just put lol, it isn't the fuse, any other ideas?
#12: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: Deckchair5, Location: Bath UKPosted: Thu Aug 18, 2011 1:37 pm ---- Yes Click on and have a look at the link I provided above because it doesn't say anything about fuses
#13: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: Cookieace, Location: ThetfordPosted: Fri Aug 19, 2011 12:50 am ---- So it is just the solenoids? Would that explain why the doors won't unlock only the drivers door will and then when they lock they all bounce but only the passengers side doesn't move? Or is there another problem?
#14: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: Deckchair5, Location: Bath UKPosted: Fri Aug 19, 2011 1:17 am ---- So it is just the solenoids? Would that explain why the doors won't unlock only the drivers door will and then when they lock they all bounce but only the passengers side doesn't move?
Most likely, now you need to do some investigating.
When the car tries to lock all the doors but then senses one of the doors is now unlocked when it shouldn't be then it unlocks the rest too the same as if someone inside is trying to get out and tries to open the door.
If the passenger side doesn't move then that would be first on my list. Look at the wiring diagram, check if that solenoid is receiving a "close now" signal and earth. If it is and it doesn't do anything then it's dead
#15: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: Cookieace, Location: ThetfordPosted: Fri Aug 19, 2011 11:44 am ---- And if it's dead? And I replace the solenoid? Will the rest start working?
How do I see if it's recieving a close now?
#16: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: Deckchair5, Location: Bath UKPosted: Fri Aug 19, 2011 11:52 am ---- And if it's dead? And I replace the solenoid? Will the rest start working?
Probably, certainly if the passenger side remains unlocked then the others will copy it and never stay locked
How do I see if it's recieving a close now?
A close now signal? You study the wiring diagram and see which wire is the command signal wire and check if it receives a pulse when trying to lock the car
#17: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: Cookieace, Location: ThetfordPosted: Fri Aug 19, 2011 11:55 am ---- How on earth do I do that lol, I have no experience with care whatsoever lol.
Is it worth taking it to a Peugeot dealer and asking them to fix my door solenoid?
#18: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: Deckchair5, Location: Bath UKPosted: Fri Aug 19, 2011 12:10 pm ---- Certainly or any auto electrician
#19: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: Cookieace, Location: ThetfordPosted: Fri Aug 19, 2011 12:24 pm ---- Ok so run a Peugeot dealer and ask to have a new passenger door side solenoid?
How much will that cost, do you know?
Thanks again mate.
If this does not work do you have any other suggestions?
#20: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: Deckchair5, Location: Bath UKPosted: Fri Aug 19, 2011 12:43 pm ---- No don't tell them what to do as they might do just that as a customer request and nothing else. Tell them the symptoms you are experiencing in the best detail you can, write it down for them and then let them decide what is wrong and fix it
It's a very common fault on all cars so it shouldn't take them long at all
#21: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: Cookieace, Location: ThetfordPosted: Fri Aug 19, 2011 3:39 pm ---- Ok well they said they would run a diagnostics test which is like 48 quid
#22: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: jonathonccs, Location: FifePosted: Fri Aug 19, 2011 5:39 pm ---- definitely sounds like a solenoid problem. I've just had the same problem. Got a replacement @ the scrappys for a fiver
#23: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: Cookieace, Location: ThetfordPosted: Sat Aug 20, 2011 12:52 am ---- Ok, from what I've read it seems like a solenoid problem too, would that explain why the doors won't unlock? And when I lock them they all bounce apart from the passengers?
#24: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: Deckchair5, Location: Bath UKPosted: Sat Aug 20, 2011 1:00 am ---- would that explain why the doors won't unlock?
It would explain why the passenger door doesn't lock or unlock
And when I lock them they all bounce apart from the passengers?
Yes
#25: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: Cookieace, Location: ThetfordPosted: Sun Aug 21, 2011 4:42 am ---- So how much will it cost to get the passanger door solenoid done? Thanks.
#26: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: jonathonccs, Location: FifePosted: Sun Aug 21, 2011 5:30 am ----

A new one will cost you about £25
#27: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: Cookieace, Location: ThetfordPosted: Mon Aug 22, 2011 5:32 am ---- How much will it cost to get it repaired at a peugeot dealer?
#28: Re: Central Locking Problem Author: JohnB1957, Posted: Sat Mar 29, 2014 9:06 am ---- I bought a 2003 model diesel 1.4 lx 206 on Wednesday from a garage in Stockport. There were several things wrong with it which I am addressing in turn.
One of which was the central locking.
Thanks to Vaughan1993, that's all sorted!
Thanks mate. Much appreciated (££££££!)
