Hi guys,

i have a 2006 1.4 206. i'm having a bit hard gear shifting, i think it suppose to be gliding freely but most of the times i change the gear, it sticks a little bit and then moves and some times i have to release the clutch and press again to change the gear.

any ideas???? appreciates any kind of help

thanks

Is your clutch bite point low?
Does it tend to crunch when you select reverse?

HYDRAULIC OPERATED?
I would firstly try bleeding the clutch

CABLE OPERATED?
Maybe the cable self adjuster is faulty

oni have to press every milli meter of clutch to select reverse and i can select other gears withouth pressing it too hard but shift sticks a bit if i dont press. i dont think its hydraulic because i think its suppose to be hard when engine is turned off but it feels same regardless engine off or on, so i think its cable operated. i took it to a mechanic today and he said that the clutch is weak and i should replace the clutch?????

Have a look under the bonnet. If you have a cable going from behind the coolant reservoir to the clutch under the battery then you have cable clutch. Hydraulic or cable clutch will feel pretty much the same whether the engine is on or off makes no difference

Sounds like you are not getting enough action at the clutch to get complete disengagement of clutch and that makes the gears "catch" and reverse clunk on selection so if you have hydraulic system then bleed the clutch hydraulics. If you have cable then check out the cable free play or replace the cable

A completely worn out clutch plate will still give you smooth gear lever shifts

To test if your clutch is worn then simply try to drive off with your handbrake on hard, if the engine stalls or pulls the car along against the handbrake then it has grip
