I have seen some before on ebay that have a sprung metal shaped spring type mech you can see with airbag off whereas the older ones have 2 torx bolts holding it on...I think lol

Correct.
#18: Re: Removing Airbagged Steering wheel Author: banboots, Location: AyrshirePosted: Fri Oct 07, 2011 8:59 am ---- I seen this post on somewhere and kept it, its for 307 that shows 2 springs 1 either side of the wheel www.glodark.com/peugeo...7-horn.htm

The way the 307 clip on airbag fixes to the steering wheel is different to a 206.
#20: Re: Removing Airbagged Steering wheel Author: banboots, Location: AyrshirePosted: Fri Oct 07, 2011 9:10 am ---- Thats good to know so the 206 is on the bottom spoke and moves towards the centre to get it off

Yes.
Your first time removing a 206 multiplexed airbag can take a few attempt's to release both clips, once you get some practice in you will be able to pop it of first time everytime.
#22: Re: Removing Airbagged Steering wheel Author: banboots, Location: AyrshirePosted: Sat Oct 08, 2011 4:46 am ---- Well just bought a 180 GTi steering wheel so gonna be doing the airbag thing soon as it comes, is the main bolt holding the wheel on a torx 50?. Torque setting anyone? Just incase its different for newer models, for some reason Haynes use a lot of the methods for the pre 01 cars in the newer manual. Got a SP lower grill from the same guy"non sport" got both for 85 quid delivered, reasonable I thought but not looking forward to taking the bumper off, I'm a lazy bugger lol.....
#23: Re: Removing Airbagged Steering wheel Author: Rob2859, Location: HalifaxPosted: Sat Oct 08, 2011 5:00 pm ---- I think its torx 50. No reall need to torque it up just nip it when it goes tight. Its not going to fall off its clicked in place anyway. Driven without the bolt before for a brief period.
Also you don't need to take the bumper off to put the grill in; Jack it up, push the old one through and pull it out. Then put the new one in place and put the clips of from underneath its faster than taking the bumper off.
#24: Re: Removing Airbagged Steering wheel Author: banboots, Location: AyrshirePosted: Sat Oct 08, 2011 5:20 pm ---- Thats brilliant news wasn't looking forward to taking the bumper off at all, I'd end up cleaning it then having to wash the whole thing lol!!!!!
#25: Re: Removing Airbagged Steering wheel Author: Rob2859, Location: HalifaxPosted: Sat Oct 08, 2011 5:24 pm ---- You may find it harder or easier than me as I have a sports bumper. The clips are a bit sharp on the fingers sometimes. If you can't get some of them on just open them up slightly with a screwdriver.
#26: Re: Removing Airbagged Steering wheel Author: banboots, Location: AyrshirePosted: Sat Oct 08, 2011 5:25 pm ---- Having a perfectly clean straight motor is just a pain you notice every wee ding, scratch and imperfection. I've been there it ain't nice, I can park as near to the supermarket door as I want without worrying about "who the f**k done that" and just having a bad day from then on in....Used is good.
#27: Re: Removing Airbagged Steering wheel Author: lmilligan, Location: HertfordshirePosted: Sat Oct 15, 2011 5:55 am ---- Just got my gti wheel and pushed the bottom clip in and released the top clip, Do I have to prize this ine up aswell? I just tried and it moves and doesn't do anything
#28: Re: Removing Airbagged Steering wheel Author: banboots, Location: AyrshirePosted: Sat Oct 15, 2011 7:33 am ---- When I first tried to get it off only the top LHS popped out I just kept putting it back in till they both popped out, use a big flat driver that will fit in the hole and press it upwards towards the centre of the wheel not at an angle. When you get it off the connectors have a locking clip that prizes off butt is still part of the connector then use small flat screwdriver behind the connector to flip them off. Hope this helps but no prizing was involved in taking the bag off
#29: Re: Removing Airbagged Steering wheel Author: lmilligan, Location: HertfordshirePosted: Sat Oct 15, 2011 7:36 am ---- I got it done now
#30: Re: Removing Airbagged Steering wheel Author: banboots, Location: AyrshirePosted: Sat Oct 15, 2011 7:43 am ---- Did you just wait for the thing to discharge or take out the airbag ecu wiring under the consul? I took out the wiring as taking out the centre consul is like 5 mins to do. What do you think of the wheel on then?
