a remapped 1.4 takes it to approximately the same power as a standard 2.0, but with better MPG and all are £30 to tax.

apparently they top out like a gti (130ish) because of the longer final drive with a good remap.
Ha! Well that's a great reason for buying one...so a heavily tuned one with 140bhp will go as fast as a 140bhp GTi...amazing...
#18: Re: 1.4 or 2.0 ? Author: 2Oh!6, Location: GloucesterPosted: Tue Aug 23, 2011 1:32 pm ---- If you go with the 2.0 (good car.. previous owner and I never had any real problems with it) make sure it's 51 plate or newer as mine was an x-reg and road tax pulls your pants down with something like £230 a year to keep it on the road.
#19: Re: 1.4 or 2.0 ? Author: Harty, Location: West LothianPosted: Tue Aug 23, 2011 1:36 pm ---- Well edward mines running about 125ish bhp and tops out about 120ish but takes an age to get there cant say what the eco one could do at the same power... Anyone with an intercooled hdi wanna test the top end? technically it is possible to match a gti but a heap more torque and you may die waiting on top end
#20: Re: 1.4 or 2.0 ? Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Tue Aug 23, 2011 1:36 pm ---- Y plate cars were based on emissions.
#21: Re: 1.4 or 2.0 ? Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Tue Aug 23, 2011 3:13 pm ---- 2.0 hdi everytime - end of thread.
I saw a non plexed 51 plate 2.0 HDI eco today having new tyres fitted at the garage, tax disc said £30 for 12 months & it did have a green I on the HDI badge on the back.

will still be slower than a gti, no doubt
#23: Re: 1.4 or 2.0 ? Author: Harty, Location: West LothianPosted: Tue Aug 23, 2011 3:54 pm ---- Yeah i'd agree it would be slower but same top end at lower revs and more torque... I seen a thread on tdoc a guy from holland got his hdi to 200bhp with a claimed 0-60 in around 6 seconds would be a beast i reckon.. An expensive beast at that as you need stuff like injectors from a merc, turbo from bmw etc
#24: Re: 1.4 or 2.0 ? Author: lee206xsi, Location: CheltenhamPosted: Tue Aug 23, 2011 4:31 pm ---- 1.6 gti hdi....shame to see your going to downgrade

#27: Re: 1.4 or 2.0 ? Author: copey, Location: rochdalePosted: Wed Aug 24, 2011 10:44 am ---- thing is there only 110 bhp, which is only 20more than a normal hdi, a remap on a 2.0 hdi and its probably gunna be more powerful
#28: Re: 1.4 or 2.0 ? Author: tomd0801754, Location: MoscowPosted: Wed Aug 24, 2011 10:47 am ---- If you have the money for a 1.4hdi and then think ooo.. I'll remap it and it will be as powerful as the 2.0hdi... Why not just buy a 2.0 and use the remap money on the 2.0 and have even more power?
As stated. Better gearbox, £30 tax as well and bulletproof engine.. Any reason the 1.4hdi is better? Nah.
