#1: Water noise from glove box area Author: allison99, Location: shrewsburyPosted: Mon Aug 29, 2011 3:36 pm ---- Hi Everyone
Please could someone shine some light on this annoying problem my car has! There is water trapped somewhere in or around the glove box.It doesnt make a noise all the time but sounds like its moving from one place then seeps back over time. Its just like a bottle of water has been left in the car and is rolling around. The garage has tried all the things suggested on here, heater matrix, air locks, cleared out drain holes etc. Also they removed the glove box and the lining under the wheel arch.NOTHING. Where is this water? The mats are not wet and it is not getting any worse.I own a quiksilver 52plate 1.4 3dr. Any suggestions?

#3: Re: Water noise from glove box area Author: Matt, Posted: Tue Aug 30, 2011 12:52 am ---- My thoughts would lead me straight to the headgasket.
But as you took it to a garage I presume that they would have checked for this.

#9: Re: Water noise from glove box area Author: allison99, Location: shrewsburyPosted: Fri Sep 30, 2011 3:12 pm ---- More news on noise!!
Decided it is most likely huge airlock in heater matrix. But was then told the air is probably coming in through head gasket!!! Next idea is to drain the whole system and start again and see how quickly it develops. Is there anyway of checking head gasket? Or would you leave it alone for now? The car is not losing water and the oil is fine.
#10: Re: Water noise from glove box area Author: s35will, Location: SheffieldPosted: Tue Nov 08, 2011 1:12 pm ---- I had this noise for about 3 months and ignored it...head gasket went today. I thought it was nothing, I wish i had looked it up before.

#12: Re: Water noise from glove box area Author: JR1981, Location: DerbyPosted: Thu Nov 10, 2011 3:03 pm ---- I have noticed the same thing on mine in the same place and i do have the exact same car Quiksilver, 52 plate. Sometimes it's there and sometimes it isnt. It sounds like a fair amount of water wherever it is. If you have any joy in finding out what it is please share.
#13: Re: Water noise from glove box area Author: greenpug2222, Location: bradfordPosted: Mon Nov 14, 2011 11:51 am ---- I have this too,
It seems to only make the water noise upon acceleration. Even in neutral for a good while, whilst it warms up.......... then after it seems to get less and less.
#14: Re: Water noise from glove box area Author: DavidPCoates, Location: UKPosted: Mon Nov 14, 2011 12:26 pm ---- Hate to say it but we had this noise, later the car wouldnt start and it was headgasket gone, but it may just be low water or airlock in water system.

Yup i get that to, Press the throttle and there's like a rush of water coming from around the glovebox area, dont have a clue what it is. I have looked and it doesnt seem to be a Cause of any problems but as i said i really dont know, I do hope it isnt the head gasket. My last car's gasket went absolute nightmare, Rover 400 1.4 though, seems to be expected
#17: Re: Water noise from glove box area Author: greenpug2222, Location: bradfordPosted: Fri Nov 18, 2011 3:17 am ---- if this is the head gasket then why does it not do it all the time???? and not just when im driving a cold car.
#18: Re: Water noise from glove box area Author: Reflekt., Location: South WalesPosted: Fri Nov 18, 2011 5:29 am ---- It's just ure coolant system running through the heater matrix. You may have a bit of air lock in the system causing the trickling noise that's all!
#19: Re: Water noise from glove box area Author: Reflekt., Location: South WalesPosted: Fri Nov 18, 2011 5:32 am ---- Ok I posted without reading the first post, so ignore the above comment lol!

because metal expands and creates a tighter seal on the gasket? thus reducing/eliminating any air leak
#22: Re: Water noise from glove box area Author: greenpug2222, Location: bradfordPosted: Tue Nov 22, 2011 3:15 pm ---- ok ive looked into this a bit more and it only seems to do it in 1st-3rd gear. Im not saying its related but this is what ive witnessed.
my car does not over head and the temp needle sits between 80-90 ish all the time....
Does everyone still think its the head gasket????
#23: Re: Water noise from glove box area Author: rick-gti, Location: welshpool, mid walesPosted: Wed Nov 23, 2011 2:39 am ---- Take it to a garage and ask them to check for exhaust gasses in the coolant. thay will tell you if the head gasket has gone/is going.
#24: Re: Water noise from glove box area Author: Daza, Location: Benfleet, EssexPosted: Fri Nov 25, 2011 11:51 am ---- this started happening on my car and i checked the coolent level and it was really low (took nearly 2 ltrs of water to get back to normal level) and now its fine, always check the easy/ less expensive stuff first lol
#25: Re: Water noise from glove box area Author: NorthantsBen, Location: Raunds, NorthamptonshirePosted: Fri Nov 25, 2011 11:55 am ---- water / heater pipes that come in and out cabin are down glovebox side,
check its bled and not low on water. or even leaking.
#26: Re: Water noise from glove box area Author: greenpug2222, Location: bradfordPosted: Wed Dec 21, 2011 7:02 pm ---- My car is still doing this,
Ive found that somehow water is being spray/leaked out of the expansion tank but i can not find out where. The lid is on tight, there are no cracks or holes in it and i still get the noise.............

Change the pressure cap then, if the spring inside is weak it will allow the coolant to escape out.
There only £3.67 new from any Peugeot / Citroen main dealer.
