Brakes feel funny

Hiya,

So yesterday it p**sed down with rain and this morning, I got in the car, handbrake down and drove the car out the driveway. As I was coming out the driveway, I heard two pops (as if the brakes had frozen) and then the car moved, which I just thought ah well it must been cold last night and with the rain it's obviously frozen them, so as I'm driving I push the brake and realise that they're not pushing back at me as much as they did before, like it feels as if they've just gotten looser, I can push it without feeling 'feedback', it's hard to explain. I then pull up, pull the handbrake up and then realised wait that's not right, as the handbrake comes right to the top of the 'track'.... so I got out, checked the handbrake was holding the car and it was.

The brakes work fine and it stops, but they just feel a bit... soft.

I'm going to check the pads tonight/tomorrow... it's so weird.

Any ideas?

I've checked the brake fluid and that's fine.

I had something similar recently, turned out that one of the cylinders had seized in the out position.

I guess it could also be a seal in the servo gone but thats just a guess.

Sounds like its time to get it to a garage.

I had similar and one of my brake shoes decided to part company with the friction lining, resulting in no foot brake and excessive travel on the handbrake.

New shoes sorted it out.

I had the same problem, the rivet had snapped on the brake shoe so the lever mechanism that pushes the shoe onto the drum wasnt working anymore, the brake pedal also felt really "squishy", check the shoes before anything else
